1980 KZ 1000 Project

Hopefully the pictures uploaded. I've been working on this awhile and it's starting to get close to being wrapped up but still have a lot to do.
It's a 1980 LTD 1000. The front end, wheels and brakes are all 2007 zx 10r and a 4" stretch swing arm from Terry Mcintosh. It had already been bored with a wiseco 1075 kit, Webb cams and Mikuni RS 34s. We're doing new rings, valves and after market cam chain rollers/sprockets. Right now I'm waiting to wrap up a couple things before everything gets taken back apart to get powder coated. I'm hoping to be throwing everything back together and being dialing it in just in time for the middle of winter but this will basically be replacing my 750 ltd as my daily driver.
Hopefully all the pictures work. This last one is the bike as I bought it.

Off set front sprocket for 190 tire.
Can't remember the exact gearing right now but I think it's around equivalent to the z1r gearing but in a 525 chain.

These are the new handlebar mounts. I didn't want to run the clip ons that came with the front end so I will be running some plain old 7/8 drag bars instead.
That's the zx ignition. I will be discovering how to wire that soon. I figured running it instead of the kz ignition would be easier to mount as it already has a spot in the triple tree but who knows how much easier it will be in the long run.
Bottom of the bottom triple tree. For the steering damper.
It mounted perfectly to where the reflector goes. It had to be mounted to the tree instead of around the forks because of clearance issues. But now it turns full stop without binding on anything.

Rear brake is almost done. New braided line.

Using the original kz master cylinder and brake pedal for figment to run the zx 10 caliper. Even the newer brake is just a single piston. I think that's about it. I started shooting some primer on my body parts last week. Scored a vintage kz 900 tail, complete with registration tray and safety check list sticker!

i run a mcintosh arm on my turbo hayabusa.....terry does great fab work....

Yeah it was pretty cool. Without having my frame or wheel, it was made to fit the stock pivot and came with an axle and spacers to fit the zx wheel. All fit together perfect.

That busa looks like it's going 100mph standing still! Very slick. Looking at your signature I can see why you're the turboking hahaha!

Basically a final mock up of the bike. I'm really happy with how it sits. Waaaaay lower and lighter.

Very cool. We have similar tastes! Awesome bike. Take a peek at mine for some ideas if you need them.

You don't like the Atlantis paint job on the tank now? Hahaha!

I'll be doing the paint in my shed and trying to keep it simple. I've got a crude paint booth but I've only done one bike and a couple of helmets before.

Y'all can't really see it in the back ground but there is an old kz drag bike. I'm going to ask my buddy if its cool if I post a picture of it on here.

it's not that i don't like the atlantis paint job on the tank :whistle: .
but,
i just feel like you can do sooo much better !!!!!!!!!!

My buddy said it was cool. His name is Brad Mattei and he has a shop down here in New Orleans. He's done all the fabrication for me so far. This is his old kz drag bike. I couldn't tell you everything about it but he was running down around the mid 7s back in the early 90s.



And this is him running his first kz drag bike against terry Vance in the 80s.

Didn't mean to derail my own thread, just wanted to share some cool old kz pics.
