1980 kz750g project, better late than never

So I have owned my 1980 kz750g for about 17 years now. I used to ride this bike everywhere, I got it when I was 16 and always wanted to do some custom work to it. Somewhere around 9 years ago I finally had enough of the carb issues that always plagued the bike, completely kitted and rebuilt them and they still didn't work right, I wound up buying a different bike and parked the z. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, I finally pulled it out of the weeds. It is going to be a long process, was hoping to have it done before winter but that's probably not realistic. Very excited to be wrenching on the old girl again, brings back many find memories.

I get distracted easily, so have been working on other projects but finally made it back to the kz for a few evenings....made and installed the single carb intake, running it with the only halfway functioning BS38 it has, but planning on upgrading to a better carb.

A few more goodies added to the mix, got a set of fat bar adapters and added a set of pro tapers I had laying around. Topped those off with some new handlebar controls. Fitted the rear fender better and installed the new tail light (LED with integrated turns) turning out well, still a ton of welding to complete though, oh and a mikuni flat slide carb on the way as well.

great to see u starting on your bike....I too had my bike in the shed for the last 15 years
take your time and work on one item/part at a time. it will get a little expensive buying bolts and rubber parts.
good luck

I have always enjoyed the bike, purchased it in 1999 and rode it religiously until my daughter was born in 2005 but then priorities changed, upkeep was expensive and the carbs were never right, I wound up buying a different bike and really neglected this one. I joined the KZR site in 2003 (I think) and tinkered on and off with it but I have always had bigger plans. Modernizing is the big thing, need to improve reliability and make it somewhat more functional as well as making it "custom" or more "my style"
