Thanks boys.Im still a bit pissed off about it. All the hassle that went into welding the bungs on in the first place.Well, you live and learn.
Spent a bit more time on the bike today and got the exhaust hanger sorted.
A bit of steel strip. I hammered the bollocks out of it around a bit of scaffold pipe to get the loop

A piece of rubber from a pipe clamp ( Not sure if itll hold up to the heat or not)

Getting the bend right was a real pig to do but I got it in the end

Bolted onto one of the holes form the original footrest hanger.

and thats it.Pretty solid and plenty of clearence for the brake pedal

So,I can scratch that off the list. The only thing left to do on this side of the bike is a rebuild kit for the rear brake caliper. I need to identify it though so I can order the right kit. I got it when I bought the first back wheel (the 180 that I didnt use) All I know is that its from a 1980s GSXR 750 or 1100. If anyone can narrow that down it would be helpful

Thats it for now.

davido, if the rubber doesn't hold up to the heat, another option would be this fabric that withstand temp's. up to 2000 degrees

I don't think that rubber is a good idea. Since 6ou are not in a hurry I would suggest welding a bung to the pipe. Just my .02

No Im not going to weld on it.Thatll only bugger up the chrome and as much as I dislike chrome, thats what Ive got.Ill put some heat proof stuff in there.Maybe what Pete suggests or something like that. Im sure a bit of pipe lagging would do or even exhaust wrap.Ive got the time so, Im sure something will turn up.

Get a heat resistant Silicone coupling like they use for turbo intercoolers. Cut to size.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationthe rubber will slowly cook down to carbon.

Something suitable will turn up for the pipe clamp and thank Leon on the caliper. This week,Ive been busy helping no.1 son build his first bicycle,so I havent done a lot on my bike. I did flip it over and do the second adapter plate for the rearset. I also took them both to the other workshop and ran them over the industrial manicure machine ( I forgot my heatproof gloves,so it was fun to dooooooooo!)
Anyway,I bolted them together and got them both cleaned up nicely.

The problem now though,is,I sat on the bike and my knees are very close to hitting the corners of the engine head. Not so happy with that. So it looks like Im going to have to make another set of plates to shift the rearsets further back. Bugger!
The right hand side dictates where they go, as I have to work around the exhaust,so, what Ill do is cut a couple of oversize pieces of MDF and bolt them on.Then I can screw the rearsets on in different places until I find the sweet spot. Not too far forward/backward,not too high/low and not hitting on the exhaust.
What a pig these rearsets are turning out to be.

Bloody hell Davido - you're going some with that build, very nice. I have mine at a rolling stage but loads of other bits sorted and ready for install, one last thing that I have to sort which is being done tomorrow are the rearsets. I have 2 sets, 1 from a 95 GSXR750 and the other a 2001 R6, I prefer the R6 but due the the mounting brackets being the shape they are they maybe a but tricky to adapt to the frame (the GSXR ones fit fine but I prefer the R6) - anyway, with yours mounted where they are how comfortable are they compared to the standard ones? Also I'm in two minds to keep the Harris exhaust and may go for a Delkevic header and an after market end can, you think it'll be an issue considering you had to work around your Harris?

cheers

Monkeydoodle,I was busy with the rearsets again yesterday. I took the adapter plates off, swapped them over and flipped them upside down.
Still no better. The position is not uncomfortable, its just my knees are very close to the corners of the engine.I have no seat yet so Im probably sitting a bit lower than I would on the finished bike. If im a bit higher, my knees should be further back. I cant really lower the pegs because of the exhaust and I dont think its because its a Harris.I think whatever pipe you have,it runs under the brake pedal and will have to be worked around.
Im going to leave it as it is for now but think on an alternative. If I figure something out ill let you know.
