So after my first track day with my KZ 750, I got motivated to get out my gpz that i completely stripped down to a frame. I have a few questions to the race guys, What bracing should i do to this frame? I have seen the Kosman name thrown around when I look into the early 80"s super bikes, also this bike came with a 810 kit that had broken a ring from improper install, is it worth it to get my new used cylinders machined for this kit or just use the oem stuff? it also came with a Kerker pipe, its a little beat up but I am going to try to save it. One last question, I see people recommend using a 18 inch front wheel for better turn in, any thoughts? The bike had a rear 84ish 3 spoke turbo wheel so i could just get a 18 fron to match and maybe just black it out to kind of look like a 1000S1, again these are all ideas and questions if anyone could put their 2 cents in, I will also be adding emulators and progressive springs, if I did the math right I'll be using a 26.0x425mm 1.0kg. One last thing I dont know if this bike is becoming harder to find and should I not cut anything so i can return it to stock, or do i lighten the hell out of it? I'll get some pics up soon

I wouldn't bother with frame bracing, the stock GPz750 frame is pretty stout. If you already have the 810 kit I would buy a full set of piston rings and have your cylinders bored and honed for the pistons. Can't comment on the 18" front tire I run stock 19". I have ridden my 82 GPZ750 track days very aggressively. It has the stock frame and is powered by a highly modded 82 GPZ1100 engine. It handles really well and the only changes I have made to the suspension is a ZRX swingarm and shocks and the front end off a n 82 GPz1100. The thing is ungodly fast and handles really well.

Nice looking bike. Where do you ride? Thats also what color combo I was going to use, or the euro 1000 in white, not a fan of the red. Do you use a steering stabilizer? Also what tires do you run and what size? I am currently using Avon Roadriders 3.25/19 and 130/80/18

Thanks, I'm in California near Yosemite. The green is a custom color Mark Wing did up for me. No steering stabilizer no need, it is rock stable. For tires I am running the Avon Roadriders front is 100/90/19 and the rear is 130/80/18.

I've heard that progressive springs actually don't work well with emulators and that it's better to stick with the stock springs, or even better, to get ones from RaceTech (I assume that's where you plan to get the emulators?) Someone with more experience may tell me I'm out to lunch, but it might be something to check out.

The GPz1100 front end works great. You have to use the triple clamps off the GPz1100 due to the tubes are larger in diameter than the 750. Use the 1981 GPZ1100 front end, the 81 used standard handle bars but the 82 used clip ons. The 750 and 1100 use the same steering head bearing so the swap is easy. Try and get the entire front end, makes it easier. I have a fork brace and progessive springs and so far I love how it handles. The bike handles like the lighter weight 750 but has the power of the big engine.

thanks for the info, this is a good place to start, just dropped off my head, next I'll tackle the cylinder and check the bottom end.

All I can find so far is 83 and up with anti dive, should I stay away from that setup? And also 81-82 KZ 1000 looks like they run a regular handle bar with the air fittings up top, I was thinking of using them with maybe just adding clip on and maybe having my upper triple machined to fit the 38 mm shaft.

Stay away from the anti dive setup. The KZ1000J or Kz1000P bikes use the same basic setup as what I have. They will work for what you want.
