Burnt orange, you're right it's a love it or hate it colour.I'm not a fan but must admit it's not looking bad on the bike.Just as a BTW you can get a 82 decal set

Okay, so I got to go ride all day saturday. Sunday was a trip to Helen Ga, but unfortunately after swinging by a buddies house to pick him and his brother up, we all got to the rally point and my bike died in the driveway. Turns out my right coil finally bit the dust. Good thing it happened at a house I could keep the bike for a few days.... sucks I missed a BEAUTIFUL trip to Helen.
This week we are ordering two new coils, I've been looking around and found quite a few aftermarket ones, I'm going to go read up in the forums and see what is recommended (I hate people who don't do their own research) but if anyone has a specific brand you prefer I'd love some advice.
The bike is fast. It's awesome, however it's running sluggishly in the low RPM range so Pops and I are going to rip the carbs apart and meticulously clean them paying close attention to the low jets.
Few pics.

hard to go wrong with dyna coils .
i wonder if the sluggish running was the coil dieing?
yamaha done well with the bolts imho,

Nice to meet ya Leon. Yeah that was my thoughts too... would explain not only the sluggishness but the "too rich" feeling with sputtering and minor backfiring. At 4k rpm and up it was VERY responsive, peppy, and smooth. Man does that bike take off.

Re: 1982 GPz 750 First Bike
11 Mar 2014 17:57 - 11 Mar 2014 17:59I go to Glen over at North GA Radiator. They are located right off GA400 on exit #16. It's not cheaper, I think I paid $100 for the last tank.GA Joe wrote: I wish I had seen your post ThatGPzGuy, who's your radiator guy? I'd be very interested in getting an idea of how much it would cost me, most kits I see with with acid bath + coat run about $75-80. Even though I just started painting the bike today I'd be interested in getting the tank coated and just repainting if need be.
One thing you may consider is just painting the stripes. My painter cussed me a blue streak when I insisted on the decals. He hated doing them especially on the some of the compound curves. I think I went thru two sets so it definitely would have been cheaper for me to have them painted.
When you are up and running you'll have to join us for Bike Night. Last Thursday of every month at Summits in Cumming.

HA! I found that article and bookmarked it last night, it's stellar. I think BEFORE I rip the carbs apart I am going to start by replacing the coils. The previous owner said he "rebuilt the carbs" and the bike ran well Saturday so we'll go from there.
Jim, I'd definitely be interested but not sure I can make it as I don't get home until 7PM at the earliest on m-f. We'll see, right now I'm a weekend warrior.

I'm not doing stripes at the moment, I've come to the conclusion I may just do a few mods to it and not bring it back to stock look. The front headlight is duct-taped in place as I think the shroud is disintegrating so I'm looking into a round headlight, what kind of luck have we had going to HID? Can the battery handle it?
Next going to rebuild brake calipers, replace brake lines, and new rear shocks.

HID uses less juice so that is not a problem. A reflector with low scatter and cutoff is from what I understand.

Here's a detailed posting from Otakar that contains a ton of solid information about HID lights on KZ's. Ed
