so i threw a battery and some good ole leaded in this beast and fired her up for the first time in 3 years today. makes me feel good about my 800lb lawn ornament. for starters i want to get this baby as stock as i can before i decide to street fighter or not.

here is what im starting with.

the fairing and bag kits i pulled off. (my kitchen is a workshop if you can't tell)

might put this back on if i intend on a long ride.

sounds like its not running on all cylinders. might be an air leak , plugs, or both. ill do the plugs first.

need the assembly for the headlight as well. (i have the lamp)

my petcock and fuel lines are leaking bad. few other things need to be done like a paint job and the tank has small dents. (anybody know a good sacramento based painter that can make dents disappear?)

the original owner still has a plethora of parts for me hidden in his shed. he will be shipping them out to me as soon as he finds them.

and thanks to brian for the calipers and brake lines.

ok, let's see if i did this right.

Looks like a great base for a restoration rather than a 'fighter. It's too close to original (minus the Goldwing treatment) to hack IMO and trust me I like cutting bikes up.

keep finding nifty aftermarket parts like the damper and the oil cooler. cant wait till i get the carbs tuned and the fuel lines sorted out.

census states no street fighter, i wont argue.

Like what was said, fix it up and ride it, find a beat to hell junker and "fighter" that if ya want.

You'll be able to have fun with it and someone that wants to have a stocker can have a chance to get one if you sell

well, the fittings for the brake line were a bitch to find. luckily i have a buddy who has a flaring tool. bought 20 inches of tubing at the local napa store.
2 spark plug wires dissolved so i replaced them. now my bike has mismatched lines. threw new plugs in. the old ones were caked black.
gonna run some leaded 110 through her to blow the dust out after i replace the gaskets on the carb. damn thing was dumping gas all over the floor.

now i have to wait for the manual to get here so i can figure out how to pull the carbs.

Those pipes really are cool!!!!! Regarding the small dents, you may want to contact one of the painless dent repair places. They push dents out from behind and make them disappear without need to repaint. I had dents repaired in my wife's car (a couple were pretty large) and you could not tell there had ever even been a dent in it. I don't know if they do tanks, but it is worth giving them a call. Ed

I too, will cut up a bike at the drop of a hat, but I would leave this one alone. As for the ELR, I'm all for personal freedom, but dumb is dumb ;)
