Clutch Actuator Extention Mod
05 Nov 2013 10:11
My clutch lever has always been a bit heavy, and I've been casually looking for a fix, but recently I've been teaching my girlfriend to ride and the clutch is really taking it's tole on her forearm, So i did some research into clutch actuator modifications, but couldn't find anything specifically on kz650 (79). So I went ahead and did it myself, and I thought I might share.
like many others, I made it a bolt on so I could go back to stock if i wanted. It's lengthened as much as possible without hitting the inside of the casing. the pivot is offset 5/8". The clutch feel is significantly lighter. It only took some minor adjustments at the lever to dial it in. This doesn't seem to hurt, or wear on anything in a negative way, nor is there any clutch slippage. I would definitely recommend it to anyone having similar issues.

Will you be able to do that with a piece of angle stock and cut to size?

Of course! Angle iron would be perfect. It was just easier for me to machine it out of square stock. You can cut the actuator arm in half and weld a piece in between or make it bolt on like I did. Just make sure to double check your dimensions to ensure the arm is allowed to move freely in the case.
