I bottomed the lower race into the steering tube. You have to or tightening the upper nut will pull it up in anyways. You will be left with a very small gap at the bottom between the steering tube and lower triple clamp. Oh and don't forget to place the lower dust seal on before the stem bearing or you'll be kicking yourself later.

Doug thanks for the info...............I snuck home at lunch today....don't tell the boss!!!! AND seated the bottom race all the way up into the tube. I did also put the dust seal on right after removing the old bearing!!!! So I wouldn't forget..........!!! All looks good so far and I'll check the rest when I get home tonight

Thanks............this is my first build. I had a '73 Z1 in highschool ..............wish I still had that bike!!!! BUT this was a close second and remembering how poorly the brakes were on it. So I decided a restomod.............so far so good!!! Yes I intend on twin shocks......ZRX units are planned if I can find some. THanks for the info on the tapered bearing race............wasn't sure if it needed to be seated in the stock.

Just a question for all KZ riders ............being I had a '73 would it be wrong to copy the '73 colour scheme on a '76????

Well fellow KZ riders, its been a long winter and finally seeing some warmer temperatures. I've been busy over the winter and finally had a chance to push my ol girl out into the sunlight. Just a few little things to complete and then pull apart (again) for final assembly. Still up in the air about paint color but will come but here is how she sits as of yesterday
