Marko's 82 KZ 750 S1

Hello,
this is 82 KZ 750 S1 that I bought this year. More or less original, except the handlebars (which are BTW more suitable for riding and I will keep them).

It is not registered yet, because I am still struggling with Slovene bureaucracy.
In the mean time, I had sorted some minor issues (fork seals, cleaned the carburators) and now it runs great. I think I will keep it in original state, but I haven't decided yet.

I couldn't find much info on the net about this particular model, so I made an enquiry to Kawasaki about any possible information about this bike some time ago and I received their reply.

Quote:
Thank you for your message and your preference for Kawasaki Product.

However your bike is very old, then we have attached information only.

(See attached file: 1982 Z750-S1.doc)

Based on frame no, your bike is 380th of Z750-S1 1982 model.
Z750-S1 had been manufactured less than 1400 units.
Would you please check the detail looking at the above document.

End of quote.

And this is how it looked like when I bought it (pictures are Prt Scrn, hence the poor quality).

Interesting. It must be the European equivalent of the 1982 KZ750-M1 (twin) that was marketed in Canada. Ed

Yep, looks just like the 82 KZ750M1 CSR, sold in the US and Canada (at least).

I think that's the first S1 I've seen.

Today we had a great weather, and I made my first longer ride (200 km), I was quite surprised how well the bike handles. I fitted also new tires (Bridgestone BT45) yesterday, the grip is really good.

The bike appears to have the same color fuel tank as the CSR - I inadvertently bought a really nice one for my 650-CSR. It was a cool color which I'd say was a black cherry - it kinda varied in appearance depending upon the light... kinda neat.

Hello,

here are some recent photos of the bike.

From trip to Croatia (Rovinj):

I also got a new (or better repaired) seat and I quite like how it turned out. I didn't want any radical changes in comparison to original, only a bit flatter form overall.

and after:

I wish you all a happy new year and safe riding!

Greetings Marko!

A rare motorcycle you may have Marko. That model was not sold in North America so we don't have much information on it. As has been mentioned, it greatly resembles the (K)Z750M model but, according to my sources, there are some differences between what you have and the description of the Z750S model (aka Z750LTD and manufactured in 1982 and 1983). The S model is supposed to have wire wheels and a rear disc brake, while your motorcycle has alloy wheels and a drum rear brake. To confuse things even more, your motorcycle most closely resembles the Z750Y model (aka 1982 Z750LTD). This is yet another model not sold in North America so information is scant. You may have had more changes done to the motorcycle than just the handlebars...or, as has been the case in the past, Kawasaki has not been the best keeper of records. I also suspect when Kawasaki was simultaneously manufacturing a number of very similar models, a fair amount of mix-and-match occurred during assembly.
