Engineering build complete on KZ650
06 Jun 2013 13:50 - 12 Jun 2013 09:58
I know I haven't been in here much lately. That's because I've been busy putting together this:
This is from the gallery - here .
A lot of what I needed to know to be able to put this together I learned here on these forums, so thanks to everyone![:) :)](/media/kunena/emoticons/8.png)
A quick rundown on the specs:
My goal was to build something with more modern handling, but without losing the older look. I hope everyone thinks I made it

Looks great, I like your style too, I'm the same still working on mine but its on the road now at least so I'm getting some enjoyment, now just need to lay off spending time & money on it for a while and keep the family happy... Just love the old school look & sound. Hope it rides as good as it looks! salute

I didn't read the part in the thread about your goal till just now, but while I was Checking it out in the gallery, and reading your specs, I thought that must be a real nice riding period correct bike. So if you ask me you nailed it, how does it ride? That six speed must be nice!
Mine:
04 Honda rebel 250(wifes)
04 GSXR 750(bolt on galore)
98 CBR 600F3(filter, pipe, adjustable cam sprokets, dyno tune)
76 KZ900A (LTD gauge pods, crash bars, LTD(style)pipes, dyna coils and ignition, headwork and mild port cleanup by cavanaugh racing, K&N filter pods, heck I dunno.

I had it out on the weekend. Up to ~150km/h it is very stable, then I felt a slight wobble. I'm not quite sure if it's in the steering or if it was just the wind - I need to test it a bit more. I'll add a steering damper if necessary.
The sixth gear is a huuuuuge improvement! Of course, the extra CCs help too
The engine is very responsive compared the the 700cc version I had last year.

It is 1000% better than it was last year. It feels familiar since it is still MY bike, but it does not feel like a 35 year-old anymore - it is rock solid! Of course, I can't point at any one thing that makes the difference since I did the swingarm, the wheels/tires and the springs all at once. Once I address the speed wobble, my wife will no longer be leaving me behind with her FZ6 ![:) :)](/media/kunena/emoticons/8.png)
Leon, you'll be interested to know that I found a local semi-retired machinist, so I got a very reasonable price on the spacers I needed for the rear axle. I'll have to get as many parts made as possible before this guy sells his equipment!
