Need a bigger tank for my KZ1000P

Hello, all.

I'm not sure what part of this site I should post this question, so feel free to move it.

My 1997 KZ1000P is a daily commuter, about 60 miles round trip. At 42 miles per gallon That means buying gas every third day, which sucks.

Will a big tank from a Kaw Concourse fit? Or something else?

The bike shop that used to service the police dept KZs here said they have been asked this many times and don't have a Kaw part that will work.

I am unaware of any easy tank swap for the P series bikes. Rephrased, I don't know any drop-on replacement tank.

I want one for my LTD also. I think that a 81-83 A series shaft drive tank might be able to fit, but might take a mod on the rear hold down, can't confirm. Then there is the 81-82 GPZ tanks, from the 750 and 1100. They could be a good canidate... but again doubt it will be a direct fit. Probably at least the rear tab for the hold down would be different. Then they are fuel injected, so no regular petcock flange. So a different petcock would be required to fit the threaded bung on those tanks.
If you come up with something, post it up. I would be interested in your results.

What's the capacity of a Police tank?

Just an idea. If you have to modify a tank to make it fit, within the realm of possibility is a tank from another Japanese mfg's bike, such as a GS1100 or something? You could buzz thru the Partzilla diagrams (since those are about the easiest to use), then, if anything looks promising, check out ebbaayy photos.... just throwing it out there.
