Is it possible the bike is a 1980 model? ... referencing the muffler stays.

The title says it is an 1981
I also have the original purchase order saying it is a 1981. But, the DMV says it doesn't have enough numbers in the VIN to be a 1981.
It was built in June of 1980.
So there you go. Im not sure what it is.

So the next step would be a Pipe and Air Cleaners. But, what is holding me up on that is that these carbs have NEVER been messed with. The plugs are still on the Air/Fuel screws. She runs great. I just hate to mess with it.

Your bike runs great, so why fix what ain't broke? What are you trying to accomplish by removing things that work well? Is it a matter of following what everyone else is doing, even when those changes may not work well for them? Form over function rather than the other way around? Speaking as a guy who really enjoys riding rather than staring at my bike wondering what I must do to make it run again, I don't understand making changes without a clear goal and an extremely high probability of success.
Your bike already looks good and is one of a kind. Why mess it up trying to make it look like someone else's bike that doesn't run as well as your own? Ed

Same as Ed. You did some nice upgrades with the bars and the seat. It looks great and they are great bikes. Ride it a while before you change the tune. If the exhaust is solid it is a slamming bike and with the exhaust and breathing system it is a great running bike with no fuss. The engineers knew what they were doing to make that bike run sweet. A big shame to mess it up. Just depends if you want to ride or swear really. You will not be disappoint!
Take it from me cuz I found

Thanks guys,
I'm not going to do any more to her this year. I put new turn signals on her tonight and that is it. It is a 32 year old bike with 13,000 miles on the clock. It runs great and is a very fun little bike to ride.
I have a line on a 1979 KZ100. So that might be next on the list.
Thanks,
Tim
