So my old Chevy got stolen, and I wanted to wrench on something again so I picked up this bike. It started up fine, but the idle wandered and the sea air did a number on, well, a bit. The more I got into it the more I realized (justified to myself) that I may as well freshen it all up.
The game plan so far:
Rebuild the carbs - apart from a stripped and stuck adjusting screw in good shape
Dyna ignition and coils
Thunderheart Micro Harness - ocean killed my wiring
Brake caliper rebuilds - tore the rear assembly apart today and need a new piston, cylinder looked fine though
Brake disc - was pretty worn, any suggestions on replacements or should I stay OEM
New paint job - the purple and orange wasn't doing it for me
Wrap exhaust - I read something about clear coating the wrap as a moisture sealant, anyone have more info?
Suspension - I'm gypsy right now (no rent leaves much more for parts) so there's a good shot this thing will spend some time on dirt roads. Should I stiffen up much for this?
Superbike bars, a flat seat, and a good scrubbing.
In regards to offroad as well, has anyone used the conti escapes?
