Re: 82 KZ750 Resto / Cafe - First Timer
01 May 2013 14:37 - 01 May 2013 14:39First try at powder coating. I luckily work at a manufacturing plant with a fully functioning tool shop which includes a sandblaster, powder coating gun and oven.
Tail light is ordered along with the rear blinkers. Seat is off and being shaped and re-upholstered. I'm thinking within a week I can be up and running.

this is great! I have been thinking of that 4-1 but I haven't grown tired of the 4-2 just yet. it sure improves the sound and that's reall what has gotten me wanting it for my bike.

you said
Bike sputters and doesn't produce sufficient power from about 1200-3000
i say check your timing advancer , make sure its free or rust and it turns freely .
may not be the problem but its something you should do anyways and its easy .

4-1 came with the bike along with the aftermarket rear shocks. It's really loud.
Richard_oxon, ill check that out. I believe part or all of the problem to be bad carb boots. When I spray carb cleaner anywhere around them the idle jumps.

Re: 82 KZ750 Resto / Cafe - First Timer
05 May 2013 11:41Seat needs to be reupholstered obviously and I need to get it running right but it's really close.
Blinkers, tail light and new master cylinder (thanks pappy) on he way.
Anyone ever take off on of the caliper/rotors and just run one front brake? I think that's on my list. it would look much cleaner and should function near the same.

2 questions for you guys.
-How universal is the clutch lever? Would one from an 83 kz750 l3 fit on an 82 kz750 ltd?
-I bought new Dyna 7mm Copper Core spark plug wires and B8ES spark plugs. This combination is what's preferred in these bikes right? After reading through a lot of spark plug threads I'm worried I have no resistance?

So I'm getting closer, figured out I have a bad starter clutch for sure. It only engages in certain positions. Picking up a seat today. I keep blowing my main fuse whenever my new tail light is hooked up.

:woohoo: Temporary seat but I'm really liking the direction it's going. Next I need to visit my welding friend and get a loop and make a seat pan.

Replaced my starter clutch today, will add oil and try to start it up tomorrow. The job really wasn't as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. Challenging but totally doable.
