so i got the black 82 kz550 for 20 bucks from a friend, he only used it for parts on his bike, the blue one 79 kz550 i got off a guy on craigslist, wich is gonna be used as the donor bike for the black one, so far i got the blue one to start wich is good since the motor will be swaped. im gonna go simple on the build, lowered and maybe stretched once i figure out how to do that, gonna be a great build

Why?? These bikes handle pretty good, it's one of their strengths, why not build on that?

That black one looks to be a 1981 KZ550D1 Gpz. Use those pistons and head along with the oil cooler if you can. It will be more of a screamer.

The blue one looks to be a 80/81/82 KZ550A. That motor has less zing, but can pull stumps all day long. If you are going for wheelies, the blue bike's motor with airbox would probably be a better motor. If you can get the brakes working on the black one, they will stop better than the blue bike.

There is a ton of kz550 info in my signature including several manuals which you should grab.

I just finished a full rebuild of my 81 kz550
She will do wheelies off throttle the "peppy" gearing. great in the twisties. like a lighter version of kz650.

There are ERRRORs in some of the other service manuals i found. Mainly in the CAM timing carburetor and valve sections with discrepancies. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CAM TIMING AGAINST MULTIPLE MANUALS! and READ THIS!!! DONT USE ANYTHING EXCEPT THE FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL link above or buy the real deal.
