Lots of ???'s and no skills...... was created by ODFan
Ok guys, let me up front and honest from the beginning. I have little to NO mechanical, electrical or body skills. I'm not a fabber or welder, so my skills are very limited. With that being said, I'm very eager to learn and make this old kaw my own. I'm going to start the only way that I know how and that's to ask a lot of questions, and then adjust my progress from there. So, here goes and thanks in advance for your help and patience.

77 KZ1000P

First three pics are three of the pieces in the process of sanding. What is the writing on the pieces you ask? Someones failed attempt at airbrushing the decals on and clear-coating over.

1. Pics #4-#6:
Swingarm appears to be extended, is this stock or aftermarket?
Can anyone tell how far it's been extended?
Are these the stock wheels?
2. Pics #7 & #8:
Isn't the rear brake supposed to be over the exhaust?
It appears as if someone has welded some metal to the original brake to make it fit under the exhaust?
Are the pipes & slip-on a match? Or is that the issue with the brake?

welcome to KZR....we will help if you ask.

One...swingarm is factory....19-20" is stock....chrome is not.

two....stock wheels 16" rear 19" front.

three....sidewinder header....you have to modify the brake pedal on a kz. See how I did mine below. I bent it way to far...LOL

the bars just look like a stright bar.....nothing special.

my wiring was screwed up also.....there are replacement harness if you get pissed and say f..it like I did...LOL about $160 If its a police....lots of extra wires I would think.....could be a prob for a novice.

Get a correct manual for your bike and read it front to back 100 times....like I did.

Ok, so because my swingarm isn't factory because it's chrome? What location do I measure from to see length?
Can't I just mount pegs in a different location and move brake back over exhaust?

the swing arm is stock, but someone had it chromed. to measure the length, u can measure from the pivot axle bolt to the wheel axle bolt.
u can cut the brake peddle off and reweld it on in a preferred position. anything goes when u mod things. just start cutting bending and welding and dont stop until u r satisfied with the results.

oh, and have fun. Chop, Chop.

If you measure from center of swingarm pivot bolt to center of rear mounting flange....should be 19 to 20" if a stock arm....red arrow at bottom will give you number.

when you go to paint the plastic....you might want to call my body and paint guy....he had to redo mine do to a primer problem ....he said the primer "rang out"....I would guess it was a shrink problem.....like where you sanded on the tail piece....He also sanded on mine just like yours...after painting it was showing as a slight depression in the paint due to primer shrinking. Would hate for you to have to have done again....let me know if you would like to give him a call....I will pass on his number and let him know your calling.
