KZ1000 Dymag 5.5" rear wheel fitment. was created by Slashaguc
Hi All,

I have a '79 KZ1000 that I want to fit a set of Dymag Classic H 18" wheels into. The rear wheel is 5.5" wide and will take a 180 section tyre. I plan on using 520 sprockets with a high quality sealed roller chain. Obviously this set up will require an offset sprocket on the engine. The sprocket sizes are 18T front & 41T rear.
However, I am not sure if the chain run will foul the inside of the frame tubes under the bodywork's side cover and I'm wondering if anyone had done this conversion who may be able to advise. If this is the case, I have no problem cutting a section out from each of the tubes and tig-welding in a flat plate to close them up in order to allow the chain a clear run. The reason for my post is just to put it out there so that I know what's involved before I start.
Thanks in advance for your time guys! Slash.

Keep'er pinned, Tina!

I'm running 5/8" offset front, 530 drag chain and 180 rear tire, no from rub on mine and wheel is centered, no offset.

530 chain,5/8 offset sprocket and 5.5 rim and 180 tyre . Only paint missing on inside frame and no chain damage. I've hit 250 kph (155 MPH) at Phillip island and still good.

There are tons of capable members of the UK Z1 forum Sam, there is NO offset, the centre of the rim should be over the centre of the hub...
PM member zed1015 , his name is Rob, if he can't help you , no one can....   He's also a member of both forums....

These member are talking about offset front counter sprocket. It moves the chain alignment out from the engine cases so the chain will clear a wide tire. Not the information your looking.
