Well, I got a bunch more work done on the shaftie in the last few weeks. The carbs are all done and ready to run, forks rebuilt, calipers and masters rebuilt too. New stearing and wheel bearings, re zink plated some of the hardware and bead blasted and painted a bunch more. I have the tank stripped down to bare metal and still need to fill a couple of tiny dings. I have not decided on a color yet, I do know that I hate the original 2 tone red/ burgundy with the redish/ black brown side covers and insets- just plain Fugly imo. I'm leaning toward a plain 1 color red from a 2012 Kia Soul or a blue with black using the same blue that's on my wifes 2009 Honda Fit. Its looking good so far and this is one of the few times that the picture is not as good as the real thing. I guess the next thing to do is the wiring harness- I'm not really looking forward to cleaning all those connectors and such, I'm sure if I get started it will be done in short order just need a kick in the pants I guess.

Wow. Beautiful work so far... That said, it only serves to remind me how far I have to go on mine... :(

What did you do for the frame and swingarm, paint-wise? Powdercoat or spray? What about the engine?

I painted the engine with PJ1 satin black engine paint and was very pleased with the results. Then I painted the frame and swingarm with PJ1 gloss black frame paint, In my opinion that stuff if worse than total crap in every way. I wasted about $100 on that junk only to scrape and sandblast it off. The reason I painted was to avoid losing my original VIN label. I ended up finding a local guy who made me a perfect replacement vin label for $12 and got the frame and swingarm powdercoated with gloss black for $125 ( I had already sandblasted it for him). The parts look like black glass now. Frames are way too hard to paint with a rattle can, get it powdercoated.

Thanks, I bead blasted the wheels, painted them with about 5 coats of satin black acrylic enamel and had my Buddy with a cnc wheel resurfacing machine cut them and put a protective coating called Sharkhyde on. He does awesome work ( Interior Wheel Repair), they look better than new!

That's a great looking bike you have there! Yeh... that original color scheme was just gross. The picture of your bike was my inspiration for going with all one color. I like the black but already have a Black bike. Still have to decide, maybe all red with pinstripe like yours or Blue/ Black with no pinstripe, I'll have to make a decision soon...
