new project 1000 was created by floivanus
a few months ago I posted that I found 3 bikes for sale, a 76 kz750, 81 650 yamaha maxim and a 83 virago, I sold the kaw to a friend of mine and broke even, plus a little extra gas money, then found a guy willing to trade the two now running yamahas for an 81 kz1000 in his shop

of course, it's got the electronic gauges (matches the J model engine, but I hate the lay-out, the ones with the center mounted gas gauge and key off to the side, but it came with the ltd tank and side-covers.

Now the bad, no seat, short width bars, no air-box (well... part of one at least) only has one shock and those durned digital powered gauges, if there were a tach hole on this, I'd be able to use a nice older set on here that actually looks nice.

But hey, she does have a title.

you remind me of my buddy,he traded two shotguns for a golf cart, which he then traded for a boat, that he then turned around and traded for the 1 ton crew cab dually truck that he is driving today.

good job.

got two used shocks from my scrapper buddy.

a top fork clamp, for standard gauges, found some standard gauges, longer normal people sized bars and a seat pan and foam.

along with some other parts that I'm sorting through, pictures to follow in a day or so.

Thanks for the manual link, the frame is actually a j model tho apparently the ltd parts may fit but things like a seat wont.

That means that seat i found wont fit, and that 1980 airbox dont either. Looking for both now

One question that kerker that got thrown on with this bike, can you run a center stand with it?

Is there a set of gauges that are electronic like these stock J ones, but have the mile counter etc built in? I don't like the layout of the J model gauges, and I'd rather have something look like say a 76 900 lay-out wise.

Other than just kind of staring at the bike, I've done nothing. without a seat and an airbox theres really nothing I can do right now.

I hate the 81 and newer dash. trying to do my best to kind of clean it up and make it look better, I've somewhat done that, still no where near what I wish it would look like. What do you think, really an improvement or am I fooling myself? I still have to clean things up a lot with this mod I know that.

Still have been getting the run around from the guy I got this from about the airbox, he said he had the entire thing but ended up giving me a broken portion of an airbox instead.

I've been slacking on this thing somehow I had some old Honda follow me home from work the other day, 78 cb750F

I'm starting to think this isn't a realistic project, I want a 78 or so kz1000 and this thing is just plain ugly to me.

I ended up making a list of all the basic parts needed to turn this into a 78 at work a few days ago, with conservative pricing its a little over a grand to a more realistic 2 grand. Realism sets in when I realize that the wife cannot work right now (have an infant that is still recovering from a dramatic open heart surgery (several heart defects, mis-routed arteries and no pulmonary valve) and I guess the moral is you can't fix ugly without some money?

Would have been a better thread title (can't fix ugly)

well dangit that sucks.
sorry to hear of the problems with the baby.

how about just building the bike with what you have and getting some ride time while you look for the right project?
