Got the carbs all cleaned but having trouble finding the O ring for the main jet. The part number is 16038-013 and is no longer available. Tried several from the local hardware store but no luck. Anyone know if this part is interchangeable with other models/part #? Will try couple other stores in town...fingers crossed.

McMaster carr is the go-to place for o-rings. They have just about every size imaginable. I went thru this recently for my KZ400D and that is the route I took. When I upgraded to larger mains I just bought them from Power Barn and they already have the orings on the jets.

Ended up buying a couple rebuilt kits from Japan on eBay. Don't have everything I need but I'll give them a try.
Looking at setting the float height. Is there any other method than connecting a clear tube to the drain? The measurement in the manual refers only to the fuel level in the line but I remember I could set float height on some Honda CB carbs by measuring the distance from the bottom of the float to the carb body.

Haven't had time to work on the bike for a while. Finally got back to it and it appears that the coil may be bad. I pulled a plug, connected it to the plug wire and grounded it on the block. No spark when cranked. Checked the resistance on the coil: primary 4.3 and getting nothing on the plug wire. Looking at replacement coils on eBay and they all state 90mm (3.5 inch) center to center mounting. My coil has about 100 mm or close to 4 inches between mounting bolts...is that the right distance for my bike? Could this be a replacement by a PO?

You could check the diagrams or look on ebbaayy to see if you can figure out whether or not the coil is stock. Or look at the frame - chances are that nobody modified the coil mounts there.
Z1Enterprises sells an Emgo coil w 90mm center-to-center mounts. Although inexpensive, others say they are good.

Thanks Martin. Went ahead and ordered the one from Z1. I'll chop/weld the bracket to make it fit.

Did you verified the application? I'm not 100% sure it's correct for the KZ400.

Got the new coil on but still not running. I pulled the plug, connected it to the wire and set it against the block. Seems I only get spark right when the motor starts turning and when I let off the starter button. Any thoughts?

Is your battery fully charged? If not, it may be drawing so much energy to turn the electric starter that there's insufficient power left for the coil. Do not try jump starting the engine from a battery charger or running vehicle. Ed
