What is a 1977 KZ900 Worth?? was created by badrhino
There is a 1977 KZ900 for sale in my area. It has 28000 miles on it and looks to be in decent shape. Just wondering what they are worth or what one should spend on it.

Man that's a hard one to say without physically seeing the bike and test riding if it runs. Has it been dumped? I guess I would start with $1000-$1500 if it runs and has title. Anything under a $1000.00 would be very good. Then I would inspect the bike to see what it needs to see how much its going to cost fix up. Does it need new tires? Check the wear and manufacture date to determine how much life if any they have. How much life if any on the chain and rear sprocket? Check the chain adjustment marks to see how much more life and if the sprocket is distorted or not. Does it need a new battery? Does it have both side covers? An original used side cover with emblem will set you back about $130 off eBay. These are just a few high ticket items that should effect the price. Are forks leaking? This may be hard to tell since it may have already all leaked out. Looks like the turn signals are there but the grab bar is missing. That's about $50 to $100 dollars. No center stand? Average $100.00. So get it from him if he has it even though it not fit on with his header. Looks like the speedometer cup is missing. Can't tell on the tach. Bike looks like it has good bones. Good luck.

Edit: Make sure you ask if he has any other parts that go with the bike. Would be great if he had the original exhaust. Now that would pay for quite a bit of the bike.

I'm going to look at it today. Just happen to be going to where it is located this afternoon.

It is missing the speedo cup and I think the other side cover is missing. Center stand looks like it is on there in the pic. He is wanting $800.

As long as he has a title then you are in good shape. And maybe he is not firm on the price and is willing to go down a bit. Good luck and happy hunting.

I wouldn't count on the mileage being accurate, speedos are easy to swap and the owner has had that one off or the cup wouldn't be missing. I would be inclined to check the compression on that bike. If you notice, the carbs have as some time (maybe still) leaked for an extended period, otherwise the case under the carbs and the carb bowls wouldn't be gas stained and nasty. So if the previous owner didn't bother to repair the leaking carbs (which could cause a fire) did he bother to change the oil or perform other maintenance? Also, check the inside of the fuel tank for rust. If the compression is reasonable, ride it and see how the engine, brakes, etc. are working before making an offer. Ed

Just my opinion

non running with title $500.00
Running rideable needing tires battery etc.. with title 1000.00
Decent paint all there add 300.00
new tires new battery 200.00
new new parts (not 5 yrs ago) 1/2 aprox cost to do yourself

There has been a few daily riders in my area with decent repaints stay on CL for weeks at 1500.00
the 2500.00 & up bikes seem to resurface from same seller quite often

and of course we all know its only worth what someone is willing to pay.
a 1500.00 bike can quickly become that 2500.00 with a weekend of elbow grease

If you do like I did, and buy it from an old conspiracy theorist & hoarder, you can get a complete '76 for $350.00...but you have to find your own hoarder....easy to spot with the tinfoil on their head for blocking mind rays....

It's worth $800. The KZ900's are getting more collectible.

1977 = KZ900 A5. I would think that would add a little to the worth of the bike. Not too many around.
