Well. Here we go!
31 Jul 2012 16:30
After much spanner work on a mates chopped Z650 my ebay buy now finger got a bit too twitchy and I have bought myself a "project".
82 F model. CV carbs and the air valve forks. With a Z1000 rear wheel fitted for the disc brake. Looked half reasonable in the photo's apart from the rattle can spray job, so hired a van and drove 150 miles...
The good bits;
A: Side panels are in good nick!
B: Forks look OK....
The bad bits;
A: Some idiot has hacked the back end of the frame off
B: Some idiot has hacked the rear peg mounts off
C: Some idiot thought it would be a good idea to store it with no plugs in.....
So. Bit larger project than I first thought! Was thinking of putting it back to pretty much STD. Now :S Gonna have to cafe race it I think.
So when I figure out how to, expect loads of photos tagged "Can you tell me what this is from" :laugh:

Sounds like you have a project!
Perhaps the hacked off portions could be found at a wrecker's yard and you could have a skilled welder put those back onto your bike.
Oh yeah, some progress pics to keep everyone up to date.

One of my personal pet peeves..why not just fill the cylinder with expanding foam...

A mix of ATF and acetone for several, several days before trying to turn it over could save the rings.

Ok. Photo time!
Cams, pistons and, amazingly, bores look good. There was some cruddy water in a couple of pots but seem to have got away with it :woohoo:
Need to figure out a way to lock the clutch then take it to some one with an air wrench, as sticking it in gear and locking the rear wheel didn't work. Also need to buy a new rotor puller as my old one just aint up to the job.
Then split the cases.
Still gonna be a big job but so far so good!
