Stumbled across this original owner Z1-B on CL. He wrecked the bike 10 or so years ago and it's been sitting ever since. I offered him $400, since he saw I was going to restore it he said "How about $350?" I'm going to restore it to a "Real Nice Driver" condition. Red Z1-B paint scheme, aftermarket pipe.
When I brought it home
Hooker pipe just like my other Z1-B. Trashed can though.
Removed some of the damaged parts
Probably Ebay the tool kit
Got it into my shop, changed the oil and filter, squirted some oil down the cylinders and cycled the engine a few times. Pulled the carbs and have them soaking in PineSol, waiting for gaskets.
Will need: complete dash/gauges, headlight, bars, mirrors, points cover, directionals, rear mud guard, front fender, right peg, muffler, so far. Tank seems solid but it has some rust. I was going to try that Metal Rescue on it.

Now that I'm familiar with the bike and having stuff like the soda blaster handy, it should go fairly smooth. The engine turns over and it obviously ran before it was parked. I'm hoping just cosmetic stuff. If it runs, the biggest hurdle will be saving the tank. Everything else is just buying crap and cleaning. Once I get it running, it will be torn down and the first thing to go out is all the hardware to be replated.
Oh, I also found that re-chroming prices have skyrocketed, it's cheaper just buying nice parts.

I connected some wires, carbs are still waiting for gaskets, but I sprayed some carb cleaner down the intake runners and got a "thump...thump,thump....thump" (sweet!) So it looks promising!

Saving a Z1 from the slow death of neglect and possibly from the scrap heap earns my admiration. Good on ya'.
