Back To The Future Build
29 Jul 2012 14:56
bought a parts bike from a member for 100.00 couple hundred mile drive to go get
it not a big deal. Well... After not working for full time for several months &
the evening before I was supposed to head out, yep you guessed it work called and
hit me up for a week of 16 hour days.
I like to consider myself a man of my word so when I told the member i would be there
by 4pm the next day I made arrangements for my girl and nephew to make the trip.
It's a definate advantage to have your girl as into the bikes as you are, & I get to
fulfill my employment obligation.
4:am I head to work making sure the car has the trailer securely attatched all tie downs
in the gang box. she heads out around noon for the 4 hour tour
they took several pic's along the way
sending me these pic's all day long while i'm dealing
corperate exec's and new hires has me longing to jumping on my
bike and catch them on the open road
at around 4:30 I am told we are in different time zones but all is well the bike
is loaded and on its way home. I wont be fone before 10:30 so they will be lome long
before I am done and then with my 1 hour commute if I want any sleep the bike
will have to sit there for a couple days.

Re: Back To The Future Build

I am pretty excited made this deal on my birthday went back to work the next
day and my girl has the bike on the trailer looking at all the pics i see the date
is wrong this adventure transpired on the 24th
anyway we are tecting back and fourth she is making great time eta according to
the gps is 9:40pm my office calls me and cancells my 9pm orientation at 7:00 so
needless to say I am out of there before you could say where did he go.
I got home about 8:15 and here it comes my phone rings i look at the caller ID
its my girl. She only calls when something is wrong otherwise i get 3.5 million
texts. it appears about 80 miles out the temp gauge went to hot and the car died!
she says she is gonna get some water and not to worry after all she has her nephew
and 2 full clips for the 9mm
I would like to thank the soldier that stopped and offered up the available water he
had. of the 100's of vehicles flying by on the interstate it is nice to see our
men in uniform believe in there job
anyway you and I both know water isnt gonna cure this issue. I go ahead and grab some
tools a flashlight and yes a couple gallons of water. She calls back they are going again
so i hold off a bit 30 minutes later I get the call they are stalled again
her daughter and son inlaw are about 30 miles closer to her and on their way
The son inlaw is a decent mechanic and has a truck with a hitch so worst case have
the car towed to the local repair facility and the bike and borrowed trailer home.
i have to be up at 3 and back to work by 4:30am
my 100.00 project has just gotten expensive. Long story short after another 3 phone
calls and 1.4 million texts they pull up in the Buick Lesabre Pulling a Kwasaki KZ1000
had i have had the camera that would be the best pic yet but at midnight i know no rest
is in my future...

ok I miss representedthe buick pulling the Kawasaki i meant to say a ford truck pulled up pulling a buick pulling a kawasaki lol
After the long week i've had at work the bike is still on the trailer attatched to the car
at minimum a blown head gasket but my fears are way worse my estimate is my 100.00 project bike is now a 1500.00 mult project

The good news is you got a great project bike for a great price and the car would have probably blown regardless of where it was at. Still sucks but congrates on another project unless you part it out to fund the car!

We have seen alot of blown intake gaskets and tensioner coolant elbows go out on the 3.8L I'd check the back side of the intake below the throttle body and see if it is leaking there. Or where the elbow goes from the tensioner to the lower intake they like to break and leak there.

If the rear shocks are cramping your style I'd love to hold on to them for you!
