questions on 550 ltd was created by cyclocrossfool
maybe a 550 ltd owner can help.is there any major differences from model years 80-83? im in the process of replacing/putting together parts for a 81 (told by the buyer) ltd. the date on the head stock says 11/81 but the ser# is a C a small 1 than a large 2. so it is a 80,81, or 82? (i know all the info would be on a title, but that would be too easy and titles are easy to get.) just want to make sure i get the right interchangable parts. it has a single front disc and 16" rear wheel. is there any other differnce between other years. thanks in advance for any help, gratefully yours, tp

Probably the main difference is that the 1980 models used a single-phase stator, reg/rec, and flywheel. Later used 3-phase.
