The steering head label may also have the VIN... might be easier to read.
If it has a 17-digit vin, you could try the vin lookup at Kawasaki.com.

Thank you all for the help, I looked on the steering tube and found the VIN and year of manufacture. I went further and looked up the VIN on kawasaki.com, I have a 1982 LTD KZ550 C. Now time to choose a direction for this bike. Any off the bat suggestions?

Well, actually, if you don't have a clear idea of what you want, I would just get it running in stock form. As you ride it and see other bikes, you will quickly get an idea of what you like and what you don't like.

Carbs are out, looking get the ball moving pretty quickly as I get closer to having the title in my hands.




Exhaust system is going to be replaced, looking into the MAC 4 into 1, any reviews on the MAC system, not much found on the net.

What suggestions do you guys have for making this a speed demon? Everything other than switching out the engine.

I am in the process of taking out my engine and I reached am trying to find the best way to disconnect the alternator leads (yellow) from the engine, I am going through the service manual and there is nothing that I can find to help me sort this out. Recommendations?

You can pull the wires apart at the inline connections.

Engine is out! Time to start some deep cleaning, and check out whether or not I have a blown head gasket.

A year and some change later, the bike has been disassembled, and now most of the components are back in place. We are stuck on the electrical wiring stage of the rebuild. I need help trying to figure out the correct connections and positions for these wires. So close yet, still s far. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I have taken a look at some of the diagrams, but have a very hard time trying to make use of them.
