I bought this new and a few years back gave it to my son while I bought myself another bike. He let it sit for 5 years and recently told me he needed the room in his garage so I should just come and get it. I did and am now going over it making it road worthy again.

Its needing a starter, battery, fresh gas and plugs. It will, or at least it did kickstart pretty readily so I can get by without the starter but I do want to get one or rebuild the one I have.

Anyone have some reputable reliable parts sources?

I'm also thinking about modding the footpeg/shifter/rear brake lever setup so I can stretch out a bit. I'm wondering if anyone has tried any aftermarket parts that might fit? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here it is back when it was new....

Welcome ohiomike, bike looks good. 5 years stored can't be too hard on it.

You might clean the starter connection at both the starter and the solenoid as well as the ground connection at the rear of the motor on the right side (throttle side), made a difference for me. The twins suck a lot of juice at starting, good battery condition is a must if using the starter.

Z1 Enterprises is not the only choice, but it is my first choice for parts. Quality prices, service and support That is hard to beat.

Look for a factory service manual ($20-$35 e-bay), better than aftermarket manuals.

Search e-bay for KZ forward controls (I have seen sets for 1000's).

Good luck,
Jim

Funny, I just bought that same bike.

We "belters" need to stick together! B)

Good luck with the restore. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Bikers are a rare breed.
Harley riders are a dime a dozen.

I just remembered seeing the same bike parked outside of a biker repair shop in town...Mounting the highway bars may prove to be difficult it looks like the exhaust is in the way from the pictures...anything is possible tho!!!
