Newly adopted 78 KZ1000

I just ended up adopting this 1978 KZ1000. Originally I was looking to find a used and reasonably priced UFO on eBay for my other bike and almost bought a new Vance & Hines Megaphone, but then I found this bike on craigslist.




For just a couple of bucks more I got new Vance & Hines Megaphone AND a pretty complete bike. At first I thought it would be a pretty good parts bike for my other KZ, but I think I'll fix her up.

First thing will be cleaning out and coating the tank, rebuild the carbs and get her running again. Not quite sure which avenue I will take. Probably not going to put her back to "all original" since somebody already messed with her (Renthal handle bars and cut rear fenders). I think once I get her running again the next thing will be to convert to dual front brakes...

Let's see what happens...

If you're not going to use a front fender, get a front fork brace from www.fastfromthepast.com as it will greatly stiffen up the forks for much better stablity.
