KZ1000 mild custom, frame off... was created by notaduc
I have never been good about documenting my projects. I decided to do my best to keep track of this one.

I have a blog that I started a while ago that has become mostly my KZ -
fairmachine.com

I will also try to put some updates here...

A year ago I bought this as a frame/engine and have been grabbing parts on ebay mostly, 18" police wheels, late model police fork/triples, used Kerker, just got some Koni shocks, and a mess of other little things which I am afraid to add up what I have spent...

Currently I am in the middle of the engine overhaul, just reassembled the head after porting and a 4/5 angle valve job.

The frame is out getting blasted (wont fit in our cabinet) so I can refinish it in black oxide.

Here is a BMW oil cooler I welded -6an fittings to yesterday.

Cool..... I always wondered why you see full braided lines from cooler to engine on the high end bikes like Sanctuary. I'm sure there is a really good reason that I don't know about, but I always thought that it would be cleaner to run a hard line from the engine pick up to the front frame rails, then transition to braided. The braided looks cool and all, but its awfully bulky.

I can sympathize with your build. I was the exact opposite, I needed to tear the engine apart but I didn't need to tear the rest of the bike down. Once the engine was out though, I couldn't help but give way to the dreams I had about making my KZ a one of a kind (like your Hawk). I got bit hard, and it hasn't let go ;)

I was planning on flared hard lines for the cooler, but after talking to our race shop foreman, and our head machinist (who used to do a lot of hydraulic work also), I am going to use flexible lines like most folks use.

They both immediately warned me that the flare like to crack when it sees too much vibration. Its a bummer, I really working with hard line.

I am in this boring/anxious holding pattern, waiting for my block, pistons and crank to materialize, and the frame to get back from blasting.

I have bee occupying myself cleaning and finishing all the bits I have on hand.

Here are some awesome photos I found of some KZ's at the track for testing in the 70's with honda logos on them.

The machine work on my head is finished, and its painted waiting in a bag on the shelf.

Here is a photo of the plugs in my smog ports, I posted this as a reply to another thread, but as its part of my project...

I wanted to run the early valve cover, so, I turned four tapered aluminum plugs and welded them into the openings in the exhaust ports before the porting happened. In the photo above, I tapped the upper holes 1/8 NPT, and put some plugs in more for cosmetics and to keep water and debris out.
