Just finished re-installing the carbs and tank. New Z1E petcock looks great. Now I need to replace the throttle cables, they are too long for my new handle bars and aren't moving smoothly.

I've gotten stuck with my front brake's master cylinder. Can anyone tell me how to get the snap ring out? I ordered the master cylinder rebuild kit from Z1E but cant get the old one out. I have two different pairs of snap ring pliers as well as VERY thin and long needle nose pliers, but still cant reach!!!

IIRC, I used a set of normal, very long and thin nose pliers that I used a grinder to make even thinner near the pointy end. I then pushed the piston in as far as I could and, after lots of swearing, managed to get the bastard out.

Okay, I guess I will take my shiny new needle nose pliers to the grind wheel. Thanks for the tip.

Just another question. It may have been a stupid thing for me to do, but I have totally ditched my exhaust recirculation system on my bike. Instead of buying the block off plates for the valve cover, I just ran a reinforced rubber hose from one side to the other, held on with hose clamps. Used a bolt and two washers with liquid gasket to patch the hole in the airbox. As long as there are no leaks, should this work? I am worried if there will be too much pressure in the hose. Im trying to think this out, but I am not familiar with what goes on under that valve cover. Is there a lot of pressure? Does it need to vent? Is my hose going to burst and cover my face with burning hot oil?

Cobura, the cross over hose fix works like a charm. 2 years and no problems. This is on a 750-4.

Good luck,
Jim

Those ones from 79 are a paaaaain!!

I used cheap regular ring clip pliers. they were like $5 at auto zone and the handle looks kinda like the one on Z1 enterprises.

I had to grind down the sides to fit too though. It took me like an hour :pinch: but i finally got it out and replaced it with one from the hardware store. If the needle nose dont work you could try this.

Keep it together man!
