What are you using for a welder?

I had a mig welder that shit the bed, that is what all those bad welds are from. Now I am working with a 230 stick for the time being. It gets the job done but can be ugly. No big deal everything will be smooth as pie when she is finished. Nothing a little grinding won't fix. Later.

Progress is being made on the KZ750. Sub frame is built from an old 1978 GS1000 lugage rack, electronics being placed out of site inside rear tail fairing, undertail to join rear cowl from a 2011 GSXR1000 with in the works, rear sets mounted. Lots to go but at least getting some time in.

Well, Taking advantage of some cold weather and down time. 530 Chain conversion complete. 17T 5/8 off-set front sprocket, 46T GSXR 1000 rear sprocket(fits 04 gsxr600 hub). Frame had to be notched a bit for chain to clear. Front end side to side travel set, by filing down existing triple tabs. Subframe almost complete, needs finish welding. Stance on point, but will require adjustment tuning when completely on rubbers. Slowly but surely she makes headway.

Just picked up a 81 750. How hard was it to get that swing arm to fit? What kind of modifications do you have to do the get the chain to line up and correct gear ratio?

Hey, The 04-05 GSXR 600 swingarm will fit inside the mounting tabs, but a spacer will need to be made to match outer diameter of frame bolt to the inner diameter of the swingarm bearings. A few spacers will also need to be made to shim out the inside space between the frame. As for the sprockets I went with a 5/8th offset 530 sprocket from Precision Metal Fab . That pushed out the chain enough to line up with the rear sprocket which I swapped off a 04 GSXR1000 in 530 46T. The 600 is way too small and in 520 which precision does not make. So chain rubbed on lower and upper mounts just a bit. Zipped some lines and punched about an 1/8 of distance out of the innner curves of the frame rails. I will plate the upper one and just finish weld the other. Based on where you want the suspension to sit you may have to fab up a lower chain roller to keep the chain from bottoming out on the lower frame rail. It's coming along. As for the ratio I played with it and came up with this setting. I hope it puts out a good midline performer. I included a ratio chart if you want to do your own. I hope to have it running this spring then it all comes apart again to finish.

As far as I know the 750 has different dimensions, but I am not completely sure. Thanks
