1980 KZ750H Modern Cafe Project

I am starting a custom cafe build. I have started with a 1980 Kz750H and will be modifying the front ent to a 2002 Zx7 setup. I will also be adapting a 2004 GSXR600 rear end. I will post progress and difficulties as I go. Any helpful hints along the way would be most welcome. Thanks

The stem from triple tree off the kz was removed and the zx7 lower triple was machined flush. The kz stem was pressed into the zx stem after some machining. I pin was placed in for safety. Machining cost $150. Well worth it. Now it is a dead fit with the new tapered bearings.

Here are some mock up shots of the rear suspension set up. Once the subframe is designed mores support will be incorporated.

Re: cb350 tank

Well, working on the suspension set up. I got the mono shock welded and the front tank mounts made. I had to spread the cb350 tank a bit the get it to fit. Next step subframe. What is the best way to make a custom tail section?

Bitchin! I like where this is going. For ideas on a subframe, look on ebay for xxx subframe. you will get a general idea how they look and possibly mount. Then you can use stuff like coathangers, masking tape, cardboard, dowels, hell, anything you have on hand to "mock" something up. Make some drawings and get some tube and get bendin/welding :)

Well, after many hours of thinking and looking at this thing I think I have settled on the start of a tail section. I am going to add to it and incorporate a taillight. It is the cowl off a 2011 gsxr 1000. So many projects going this one is moving slow. Ride safe.

Hello All, It's been a long time, but I am finally back on the KZ project. Began fabrication of sub-frame and tail section which is a rear scoop of a 2011 GSXR1000. I used some old metal I had sitting around the shop to fab up the sub. Complete set of shop photos can be seen @ SOS CYCLES
