aquired in 2006 now just getting around to serious effort and $$ into my build. will continue to update with pics.

here it is shortly after it came home and tossing the sissy bar and learing that Z1 Ent. has a great owner and will be getting lots of my money no doubt to get her up and running like new or better.

Interesting, that is a 1978 fuel tank on the bike.

78 tank for sure, the Vin and Eng# put it as early in the prod. run 1977 so it's been swapped over in the past. the tank paint is original and in beautiful condition after I polished it out, clean inside also. the tail and covers were resprayed in a non oem red (no candy)

I have another tank for this project and will shelve the 78 tank for future use/sale.

new fork tubes, seals and bearings for wheels, swinger, and steering head arrived from Z1.

seals/bearings installed interesting note that swingarm is supposed to have 2 bearings per side but mine only had one like the earlier gen bikes. ?? it's pretty early in the VIN series so I wonder if they were using up spares on hand, completely normal.

prepped the mags for new rubber....powdercoaters not following instructions completely led me to dremel off coating so the rotors would seat and run a tap through bores.

rubber mounted and balanced, hoping to get rolling chassis but forks still need to be addressed. need to figure out how to remove tubes from sliders without the special tool..??.

moved the MK2 engine from the front of the bike lift onto a cart so I have room to work, swingarm temp. mounted, will be trying to find a local plating shop for the zinc chromate on the hardware. pics to follow.

chassis almost complete, finished up today with tapered stem bearings. already watched the MotoGP race and I'm being hounded for a chick flick today.... wheels with new rubber, will be addressing the rotors for clean up when brake phase is being done.

I have an idea on the fork piston removal, the syle mine is there is nothing to 'grab' onto inside there the top is fairly smooth. so the tips that folks mentioned won't apply here unfortunately.

ok, finally was able to complete the fork disassembly via a self made holding tool. the sliders have pretty good scoring and scratches on the interior bores, will have to see if this will cause premature wear on the new tubes. the amount of sludge in the piston assem. was impressive, I'll blast a can of carb cleaner thru them so the passages are free and clear. considering Race Tech emulators.

guages packed up sent off for resto work, spent a bit of time on the phone sourcing local plating shops.

parts for both the A1 & A3A are back with fresh zinc plating, didn't know what to expect as this is a first time for me but I am pleased. The misc. small parts in the bucket look duller in the pic than they are, they're nice and shiny like the axles.

fork tubes arrived from IHC today, they're unreal.

broke down the MK2 forks, and noting the differences in the A1 and MK2 internals and tubes. will post question on chassis section on MK2 forks...

the A1 piston assem on left and MK2 on right, seems like they really simplified it as they're alot fewer parts to the MK2 assem.
