soo... i have slowly been obtaining parts to "upgrade" (in my eyes) my 1980 KZ1000 ltd... i know i am missing a few things such as clevis style shocks, chain, rear axle and some spacers, and rear tire 160/60/18... i was wonderring if anyone had some tips/advice/parts or anything that might help me in this process? also what length chain are you using with the gs1100 swing arm? heres a few pics of what i have...


parts list: suzuki gs1150 swing arm/1987 kawasaki ninja 750 rear wheel, hub/sprocket, rotor, and rear brake system

so it finally happened! the deal i have been looking for finally came my way. i picked up this 1993 Suzuki GSX600F for $250 delivered yesterday and plan on using the parts in my KZ project. i plan on using the complete front end to do a swap on my bike. and i may be changing up the GS1100 swingarm and using the swingarm/wheel & tire/brakes off of the 600 katana and welding some sort of mounting tabs for the rear shocks on the swingarm. has anyone used any parts off of this bike on their KZ? as always any helpfull tips/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

everything of the front brakes on the GSX600F are good and in working order. the forks are extremely spongy and i am assuming needing to be rebuilt? there is no sign of oil leaking out? can i just fill the tubes with oil and bring them back to life or do i need to change the inner springs as well? ive never rebuilt motorcycle forks before so i am a novice at that...

i would look into purchasing some new progressive springs for the forks ,plus new oil and seals and you are prob good there.

we done the conversion on my buddies bike.

Right; converted it from a moving vehicle to an inert lawn ornament, but think of the $$$ you save on chain lube :laugh: :laugh: Some of us actually RIDE motorcycles. :laugh: Don't kill me; I'm just kidding!

Damn Leon, you weren't kidding when you told me that a lot of your friends have the same racing stripes as my paint job. There they are again.

Hey speedin, when you change that fork oil don't forget to get fork seals and dust boots. They should be changed when you are in there. Cheap insurance that you won't have to do the job again.

i am deffinately going to change the fork seals and dust seals when i rebuild the forks. i will look into progressive fork springs as well. i am excited to do these modifications and cant wait to see the end result. thank you guys for your comments/help

i enjoy playing devils advocate myself :evil: .

it takes all of us resto-modders,bike huggers etc.to keep the goodtimes rollin. :silly:

some folks ride there bikes enough to wear out thirty plus year old suspension components.

then they figure out they can update there suspension and have modern brakes and handling.

sometimes for less than the cost of rebuilding there thirty year old technology back to thirty year old specs.

once you have restored a bike to factory specs in every way what do you really have?

the same bike as the guy that has your same model and paint scheme and decided to do a nut and bolt resto on his also.so now you can all park them in a line and be just like each other.

The Katana stuff is pretty much bolt in.

Conversion bearings for the forks, a little clearancing so the swing arm fits between the frame rails.

Add shock mounts and get the chain sorted out, and you're all set.

The swing arm is about 4" longer than the stock KZ1000 swing arm.

thats exactly what i was looking for! thank you... so for $250 i got the front forks/brakes/wheel/tire and the rear swingarm/brakes/wheel/tire and still have the rest of the bike to play around with parts or sell and get some if not all of my money back! i believe allballs.com would be a good place to find conversion bearings? anybody know of a better place that they have used with no issues? also from what i have found online it appears that the katana swingarm is steel not aluminum? is that the case? if so then perfect cause i can weld to steel not aluminum!

Sorry, I missed this post. The swingarm is steel and easy to weld.

Also, AllBalls is the perfect place to get the bearings you need.
