1980 Z1 Classic G1, barn find, new project

I'm going tomorrow morning to pick up my new project, a 1980 Z1 Classic G1. I'll take lots of pictures, as I go.

I need to know if I should be aware of any particulars with this model and year of Z1. I know that it is the first production year with fuel injection, but what should I do or not do to make this bike work without damaging any of the components?

Thanks for the help

Dirk

My son and I picked the bike up, boy was it dirty and the gas had turned to thick varnish.

Bike from west or north Texas? I picked up a 1975 Z2A that liked much like your G model and my bike came from North Texas. Remarkably, that dust cleans up well. I'd be pretty jazzed if I were you :)

Now the work starts. The fuel system is clogged with thick varnish, and all the wire connections need to be cleaned, but it's a cool bike.:)

Central Texas outside Bandera. The dust cleans off easy but the varnish is a different story, the tank is going to be boiled out and the fuel pump is DOA. I replaced all the fuel lines and cleaned everything this past weekend. I'm pretty jazzed for sure cause it's a beautiful bike and I've never worked on a EFI bike.:woohoo:

I've read about the problems these first EFI bikes have had but I want to keep it fuel injected and as original as possible.

19000 miles, with a little rust and some chrome flaking, but overall just a lot of good clean Texas dust. I need to put a good liner in the gas tank, after I clean it.

I worked on the pump, replaced o-rings and cleaned everything. The pump spins but the one way valves are bad so it doesn't build any pressure. I guess I need a new pump, any suggestions? Does anyone know how many amps the pump should pull?

I decided to give the old girl a proper bath since I'm waiting on a fuel pump. My son and I had only rinsed her off before we started taking parts off to clean them.

Not bad after some wax, polish, and love.;)
My son thinks it's his bike.
