New Projsct 750 LTD
09 Feb 2011 20:14
Just aquired this:
engine turns freely, it has compression. Lights come on when key is turned....and that's where it ends.....
I am going to apply power directly to starter tomorrow and see if it turns. If so, the disassembly begins to start restoring.
Any thoughts or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

awesome project you got there! im working on the same bike and thought i'd show what im up to. love to see how you fix yours up. this picture doesn't show the pipes cause im sand blasting the bottom of em tomorrow and attaching some black nubby strait pipes. we'll see how it looks. im also still deciding what color to put on the tank. thinking of a seventies looking mustard color. cool, looking forward to seeing how your project goes.

When i got mine it was the same thing, but everything was just a little stuck in place. 1) Smack the starter with a piece of wood 2) Squeeze the hell out of the clutch when you go to crank it.. but each bike is different so good luck. Looks like a good find so far

Looks about like my 1000 when I got it. Words of wisdom would be when you start working on it dont stop till its done. Finished mine in 3 months (almost). Its much harder to get going the second time around.

Those "Before and After" shots are very encouraging. I think I will save them for inspiration....

well, been poking around, looking at wiring, carbs, ignition, etc., just trying to familiarize myself with the surroundings...
Replaced some ignition wires, found a dead starter solenoid, thought it might be time to give her a try. Changed the oil, dripped a little Marvel into the cylinders, sprayed some starter fluid into the carbs and tried it out:
looks pretty positive, no?

Before I started tearing mine apart I filled the carbs with gas and was very supprised when it started rite up after sitting in a barn for 25 years. So to answer your question yes it looks like its going to run
