I did search without any luck, has anyone put a
Harley rim on like a 1981 KZ1000 CSR
The rim I'd like to use will most likely come off
a 2000+ H-D Nighttrain Soft-Tail 16in
I'm not lookin for a direct bolt-in and I do have
a lathe and mill but I'm no machinist, but I do know a few.
Just wondering how much is involved before I get my hopes up!
I would even consider running the belt if it's possible?
I do know anything is possible, I'd like to keep the stock swing-arm also but open to suggestions.
I'm going through the whole bike and the NightTrain rim
would be perfect for my build!

is it a wire or disc wheel,how wide is it?
you can normally squeeze a 130/16 in a stock swingarm without too much issue,wider wheels usually require differant swingarm B)

It is solid disc, and I need a 150/160 tire...
Sounds like a new swingarm.
I havent even looked at what I got...yet.
I may have a complete Fatboy wheel that I can use
as a guide, pertty sure its the same rim other than
the NightTrain rim is blacked out in the center.
What can I expect to pay for a steel swingarm
Maybe 1 inch longer and 1 inch wider?

you can pick up an early 90s gsxr 750-1000 arm for around $100 bucks without linkage/shock im guessing,just need to weld shock mounts on B)

The earlier GS1000 arms are also popular, though aluminum. Any reason you want steel?

One item you will need to pay attention to is the axle diameter. It is best to stick with whatever fits the swing arm, which may necessitate some non-stock bearings or other trickery to make it all work together. You will likely need to fab spacers to insure a snug fit of the wheel in the arm and proper alignment of sprockets or pulleys. If you want to run a belt, carefully measure frame clearance near the swing arm pivot. The extra width of the belt may cause you a great deal of grief there.
Swing arm pivot bolt diameter is also an area of concern.

You also take the "Cush Drive" out of the equation by using that HD wheel. Not so good if your using Chain Drive.

Steel...well I was thinking aftermarket and steel maybe cheaper?
Either way it will be painted black.

Ya know that hadn't crossed my mind yet either!
My reasoning for running a belt is, one end or the other
is gonna need a sprocket or pulley.
Seeing how there's a pulley on the rim why not try to run the belt, I wouldn't miss the grease ;)
Tomorrow I should have a complete wheel to see whats goin on.

Thanks for all the response's!
Sorry I come in here empty headed.
I haven't owned or rode a Kaw in over 20 years,
kinda slid off the deep end to H-D...
Anyway with in 4 days I ended up with 2 KZ1000's:woohoo:
Work has had me locked down to 14 hr's aday so no shop time to look and think.
I can fab, cut, weld, little machine work...
I'll get it!

actually gs 1100, the 82's are box 80 and 81 are tube
