1980 Z500 (kz500) in New Zealand
25 Jan 2011 02:34 - 25 Jan 2011 02:47
Hi all, I've just purchased a 1980 Z500 and discovered this forum.
There is an absolute wealth of information here.. infact when your starting out it's pretty daunting!
My plan is to develop it into a cool streetbike, and in the future I hope to race in our 'pre '82 post classic junior class'.
So my first quick questions on 500s are:
1, Who on the forum has raced/developed a 500/550?
2, What engines can fit in the 500 frame? 550's? 650's?
3, What are the common front end swaps? KZ750?
4, What are the common rear end swaps? ZRX swing arm?
regards,
Griff

Griff, Yer not gonna like this, BUT, As one who's been there, I'll say this...RIDE IT !!!... In the day, Moriwaki offerd a flowed head which made a big diffence, Kehein CR's ,& decked heads upped comp.ratio for a little top-end. grafting a KZ650 front end allowd a shorter wheelbase & dual discs, BUT the fact is, these gains are small compared to the gains achievable from the saddle. Ride well & have fun, But don't spend a bunch of time/money on a A1/2/3 trying to out run a similarly modded Kz/GPZ modded 750/810. & if you want to acually "play the game" step up to a FI 600. (it's a big step, & cheaper in the long run) G
