First welcome to the site. That is a great gift. It does look to be in fair shape, but you have some work ahead of you.

The vin# appears to indicate it is a 1978 B2A model. See numbers below.

that sounds Excellent Headly!! Thats my plan .. to lure them over with beer! it always works haha. I got a fresh battery in the bike, drained the DISGUSTING oil out of it thats been sitting for years.. got some new oil.. tried to start it and ..ts not getting spark :dry: .. the lights and electric start all work well but we arent getting spark at the plugs.. it sounds like the motor wants to start ..i hear a decently healthy thumping... ( please keep in mind I'm new to bikes , and was just wondering if this sounds like a common problem) . Thanks in advance B)

Try new plugs, and if it still wont start, you most likely have to clean and gap the points.
