thanks everyone for the comments. i am having a carb problem which you can read about in the carb section. until then i cannot try to fire her up. also i need to get the rest of the wire harness connected...hopefully today.

great picks...strong bikes those 78 ltd's...you may have gotten the motor from a z8 z1r too...do the numbers on the motor jive with what was originally in there.......keep it up...Craig

the frame is....KZTOOA 030869 7/77

If the # is KZTOOAE048145 than it is a KZ1000-A2 engine.

Good score kz1k . Nothing wrong with having 2 different bikes on the go. I have a harley street rod that I bought new in 2007 that I think is just the job but I also have a 1981 z 650 c3 that I bought in 1984 and I,m starting to put together after 10 years . Hopefully on the road by spring 2011 if the cash flow improves .

well i went and got my bike tonight. home sweet home!

now, what i want to do with this bike is get into the motor and try and free it up. can i take the top end of the motor out while its in the bike? or should i take it out?
i suppose i should try and get my compression back, but since im in the motor i might as well replace some parts while im in there.

so what do i do next kz?

i was thinking about port and polish, bore it out 30-60 over, and put a bigger cam in. whats it ganna cost?
