Cool, sounds like you have been busy. I like the idea of using the GPz engine with the big bore etc....that would make for some fun.
I too have been side tracked, mainly with the kids and spring time yard projects. Oh and a GPz900 has been taking up my bike time too lol. I'm just about ready to start on the engine for the 650/750. Most of the suspension/wheel issues have been sorted....slow going.

Yeah M357.5, I saw your wheels and brakes, they look great!
I like the spoked wheels also, sooner or later I'm going to find the right project to put a set on.
I'm hoping to get the built 550 motor painted and swapped in this weekend.

Version 2.0 on the shock mounts, I modded another frame. This time I did it a bit differently. It looks pretty similar, but I recessed the shock lugs 1/3 of the way into the frame tube, and I used one thin gusset, instead of two thick plates. The other two pics are stock, and the first set that I moved.
I'm back on the project full time til done. I'm hoping to be riding it next weekend.

Hi MJG15, I saw somewhere that you had thought of useing a Zepyhr swingarm, why did you scrap that idea?? I am doing a GPZ750 and are looking for a swing arm to use, I bought a Zephyr 1100 arm but its too wide for the rear footrest plates so now Im thinkng Zepyhr 750 or 550 arm. Your comments would be helpful.

I was always using the Cal fab on this bike. There is another member M357.5, that is using a ZR550 arm on a 650 project. There is an older thread about using a ZR arm on a 650 too.
If it would help, I have a ZR750 arm that I can get you some dimensions and pictures from.

If you can tell me the width of the rear fork that would be great, I can tell if its the same as the 1100 then I will know if I can use ot or not, I suspect i will need a 550 one! Thanks.
Oh and I hunted for hours having found this site but cant find much info on that 550 arm on the 650, I did find something but not enough info. I have posted on the UK Zephyr forum too but not getting much back.

Thanks I had seen that, still cant get any sizes though. I guess I will have to buy a 750 swing arm to see if it will fit. Jesus this is getting expensive buying parts that dont fit...... We have a Zephyr only forum over here and i cant even get any info from there.

Thanks, its not the front that is the problem, its generally too wide, I could make it fit but then I would need to remake the exhaust too so its not worth the effort.
Cheers,

Almost finished. I need to cover some details, but essentially it's ready to be ridden (more like de-bugged and dialed in, anyway). I've spent about 65-70 hrs on it in the last 10 days, bring the total to probably 200 or so.
I'll probably get a flatter seat, and I've got to add some directionals.
