ok i read back through but it still makes me nervous

I guess if you aren't nervous riding a bike, you might as well be on a bicycle?

Finally got some time to work on my own bike and had a slight change of plan in the process.
I've decided that the 1428 motor may possibly be a tad too powerfull for the little lightweight cafe racer so i've decided use it as a basis for a nice minimalist Moriwaki rep.
I'm slowly collecting parts for it but will resist any major work until the cafe racer is done.
Here's where it's at so far.

The cafe racer, due to the very tight frame is now going normally aspirated with bored out 26mm carbs (to 29.5mm) ,Yoshi type pistons ,gasflowed head and not much else.
Here's a few bits i've got done in the last few days, So will hopefully start getting more work done on a regular basis and maybe piece together and re-post some of the stuff that was lost in the meltdown.

Don't like gold too much so have replaced the zx10r calipers with those off an R1.

Pretty much a straight swap but the R1 calipers sat too high on the disc (shown in this pic)

So required 5mm removing off the calipers 'feet'

And, Hey presto! another job done.

Next up was the rear caliper, again nasty gold and would also require fabricating a hanger.

R1 caliper and hanger fit the disc perfectly

Just needed modding for a torque arm and sleeving for the smaller spindle

Now to squeeze in a torque arm

Which just slips past the tyre

And anchors here

Have also machined down an old damaged ignition housing which will have the old oil seal hole plugged with a nice bit of turned alloy to keep the oil in.

This is due to the arrival of a self generating cdi race ignition that runs in place of the alternator :D

A small total loss 12v moped battery will now live in the seat tail to take care of the brake light and horn to keep plod happy

Been pushing on to get the frame and other odds 'n' ends finished.

First up was a re-working of the rear engine mounts.
Gone are my original mounts which i was never happy with.

And in their place something much more fitting which tie in both rear bracing/shock mount tubes.
Right hand plate is removable

Left hand side is fixed and braced

Also added some final additional bracing at the rear so hopefully the whole thing shouldn't flex too much.

Next up was to mount a filler cap courtesy of mark (Pigford), cheers mate :up .

Remove the ignition switch mount to clean up the top yoke

And finally got the rear wheel aligned and fitted a permanent spacer/sleeve in to the rear caliper hanger.

Made good progress today on making the headstock mounted oil cooler bracket

Couple of threaded tabs on top to mount pushbike or digi speedo.

Brought the open tubes through the mounting plate for less restricted air flow

Cooler will eventually attach to bracket via a rubber mounted alloy plate and rubber straps

Front view.
Mounting brackets on ends of cooler will be removed.

Just got coil and cdi mounts to weld on and frame is done.

Oops! Almost forgot.
Also done away with the side stand entirely and capped off the tube for that proper racer look :D .

Will come up with some sort of device that slots in the hollow swingarm spindle, ala motocrosser stand type thingy that i can conceal on my person or somewhere .

Bit more done.
More old ally road sign
Cooler mount almost there bar a bit of tidying up and paint.

3mm thick alloy mount bolts to steel hanger with four countersunk bolts.

Have removed the mounts from the cooler ends which has exposed more finning.

Rubber 'O' rings around cooler fitting nuts locate in bracket to keep cooler from moving sideways and also provides some dampening.

Cooler and mount will eventually be painted black

Getting there.

Inserted some steel tubes (will braze these in later)

To take the tiny Electrex coils

The bolts for these run through to rivinut inserts on this alloy bracket

Which provides a home for these cdi units

Not too impressed with the way these mount, Just a hole through the plastic, no anti crush steel insert or rubber mount so ...

They slide on to this stainless pin (which will be sleeved with rubber)

Then this bracket slots on.

And secures them with this bolt.

Which leaves just enough room to run the throttle cables past.

Some pic's outside.
