getting a title on a scrap-yard bike
25 Jul 2010 09:26
as many of you know, i found a bitchin 78, KZ1000 at the scrap metal yard which i bought for $125.00. it has no title however. my plan is to ebay my 2004 superglide ( love that bike ) and ride the KZ but i'm moving to florida from texass and i won't have time to apply for a bonded texass title. i'm thinking about just taking the KZ to florida and dealing with the dmv there. any suggestions?

I suggest you go to both their websites and find out which one will have more hoops to jump thru. Here in Mich the easiest way is to get an "assembled vehicle" title. but the ladies at the Sec of State(DMV) are easier on you if you've got the forms in advance, filled out, and the state police safety inspection done.

Florida is one of the toughest states for problem titles, especially from out of state. I went through it a couple of years ago with a 650 from Tennessee to Florida. I had to get a frame with a title from New York to get it legal. (Thanks Kawsakiman) Even then I could not tell FL DMV that I changed frames, that puts into a "built from parts" status which they want recipts for the parts for taxing the project. Bunch of BS and red tape. I switch frames and titled it like it was from NY with a title and it went through no problems. I might add that it took a few years to figure it out but one of the members here helped me out with the frame and title.
