Seriously, if you absolutely are set on repairing it, brazing is the way to go as those are pretty large holes. The only problem is the new holes that may appear over time which means more repairs, repainting, etc. Have you priced eBay tanks before rejecting that idea? Ed

i'm going to guess an 82 since it has a fuel level sensor.
i have no doubt it can be repaired but just the time alone to do that might make a different tank a better option.
someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

MMM.... thanks for all the positive responces so guess most here have never repaired to many tanks . I have seen much worse than this repaired specially on older vintage bikes so nobody seems to think it is worthwile to solder brass screen over the holes mayby some kind of epoxy over that then por15 the inside.
So mayby buy one off flea bay that could be just as bad ....
thanks for the encouragment:dry:
With enough time and money and resources , nearly anything can be repaired. It's not that we think it can't be done, its that there are enough good tanks available, and your time and resources are better spent on other areas of the machine. Rig up a temp fuel system, like you were saying, and work on getting it to run. If it runs great, then worry about the tank, if not, you'll know where to put your time in
