As for Stan Gardner, wasn't me for I never have spoke with him... I didn't have issues with my crank but I'm only a 1015cc build with .365 cams so no need for weld and balance.... Are you planning to ride this beauty, jump on it here and there or full out balls to the walls racing it...

If truly just riding her strong but not racing it and Larry was kind enough to share his knowledge and experience and stated no need, then you should be golden for the man knows his shit.

As for the CR's, I went with the 29mm for in my build being configured more for low to mid range performance the 29's were the correct size to go with...

BTW, you're going to freaking love those carbs... Easy to jet and the performance you'll receive, no need to even go there just outstanding! ;) Hell if I could do it (jetting) anyone can....

Hey Porchev, nice work so far, and sorry about your Murphy's Law experiance. I remember going to the parts store with my dad when I was a kid. They had a poster on the wall that said "O'Brian's law states that Murphy was an optimist." I'll never forget that one.

Anyway, it seems that you are my doppleganger. When I started reading your thread, it reminded me of something...Mine! Main differences, the paint, and YOU GOT A RUNNER FOR $400. Mine was $400 too, but not running. Looks like we are approaching a similar project from different angles. I'm learning lots about my future engine build, and if you check out my thread, you'll see similar suspension/frame mods to your plan. You will get some major style points if you pull off that SSS. Better plan on beefing up that frame.

Good luck and we need to see a pic of that car too. I'm intrigued.

My mistake dave, I thought I had read about you sending your crank to Stan, but you must have commented on someone else sending theirs and I got it mixed up. As far as my clutch hub backing plate springs - There is no side to side play, but I can kinda spin 2 of the 3 heavier springs. It seams there is some interest in the old Porsche so here is a couple of pics for the inquiring minds.

You are correct TimeBomb, and I have done just that.....I have even held off a Viper in this sled. You're right Jordan a mild engine is quite potent in light little cars like this, but this engine is not exactly mild. With a short circle track cam, aftermarket heads, MSD 6 series ignition and the Mighty Demon 750 double pumpe,r it's estimated by the engine builder (based on previous builds) at around 410-420 hp. With poor traction I have done a 4.5 sec. 0-60. With good traction I estimate sub 4's. The car weighs 2360 pounds with a half a tank of fuel. I probably should have gone more mild with the engine, but whats the fun in that?

Testerossa, I have read your thread more than once, and I would agree, we are on similar paths. You are lucky enough to have a complete donor bike though, I'll have to piece my stuff together. I suppose its the price I'm paying for getting a runner for 4 bills? :cheer: I will most definately beef up the frame, and will be asking for some guidence on that when the time comes. The Triumph SSSA is 285mm wide at the pivot. I believe our frames are 245mm wide at the pivot area, requiring and extra 40mm or 1.57" of frame width. These are preliminary numbers (I don't have the swingarm yet), and I'm focusing on the engine first, then I'll get to front and rear end. B)

There's nothing wrong with that car that a good coat of paint can't fix.;) I bet that is a fun little ride. I didn't realize that you could get a SBC in a 914. I bet you get some looks when you pull up next to people at lights. You never hear a 914 unless it has an exhaust leak.

As for the bike, you definantly have your work cut out for you. I would think that you need to widen the frame, don't try to cut down on the width of the swingarm pivot. Those SSS's have some twisting moments that a dual side naturally overcomes. You need all of the width at the pivot that you can get. I can't wait to see the KZ1000 monoposto!

Thanks BadDad, I loved those little MR2's, they are fun cool little cars that handle good. Add 100% more power and you'll have a bitchin little sleeper.

Josh, :laugh: Exhaust leaks! :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: So true! I can say that more than one person has yelled at me on the freeway (usually a volkswagon driver) and asked what beast I had under the bonnet. I would also get the occasional "what do you got in that thing?" at stop lights.

I had absolutely no plans to modify the swingarm in any way. All changes required will be made to the frame including gusseting and subframe repositioning. I'm with you, the one or two SSSA KZ's I've seen made me cream my pants :ohmy: So I'm gonna build my own pants creamer! B)

:ohmy: I do my own welding. I have read many hundreds of threads on KZR, and everytime someone mentions structural welding, someone else will caution that person about safety and structural integrity. I expect to recieve those same cautions from concerned board members. B) Its cool, I mean hey, isn't that why we're here? To tell knowledgable others what we are doing and benifit from the collective wisdom and experience?

Now, the task at hand - Mr. APE owner was supposed to finish honing my cylinder this weeked, and it should be ready to pick up tomorrow.

I do encourage any other comments or questions, even if it is about my other projects ;)
