That's good to hear. You will have a fair appreciation for how much better the MIG is after using flux.

Speaking of welders, I was just mulling the possible idea of local groups of riders forming tool Co-Ops or partnerships. That way a group of guys could go in on a purchase of, say, a $2000 250A TIG welder. 4 guys chip in $500 each and then you have a kick ass machine. I know from my experience owning an airplane, having a partnership signifigantly cuts aquisition costs as well as lowered shared maintenance costs. In the case of the airplane, even when it was utilized alot (30-50 hrs a month) it still sat on the ground 90% of the time. Now I'm hijacking your thread Josh, sorry

Thanks for chiming in. I like to bounce ideas off of others so please feel free to comment. I hope to show some progress soon. I'm currently floundering on the last few bits of fabrication, but I have everything to build my engine, and the last few electirical bits are on the way. I'm just waiting to do the engine until I get all of the nasty fabrication out of the way.

Don't you still need to strip everything apart and weld everything up, or have you done that already?

No I still need to strip everything and weld it. I'm definantly only going to do that one time. Just saving that for one of the last steps before I strip the frame of all paint to prep for new paint. Just about everyting is still in the tack welded stage.

Quick update: I fabricated the exhaust mount this afternoon. Got my latest shipment from Z1E which is just an ignition switch and a few carb. jets. Also started tearing into my carbs today. Got the rack and two of the carbs dismantled and soaking tonight.

Here are some pics of the exhaust mount:

I found something strange when I got into those carbs today. Has anyone seen plastic main jets? Both of the two that I got apart had plastic 112.5 main jets. Weird! Evidently someone had 'em out a few times b/c the screwdriver slot was buggered before I touched it.

The ole grinder got a workout on that hanger. Unfortunately, my high zoot plastic mains aren't going back in. I don't know what the other two carbs look like yet, but one of the two that came out was knackered. I don't think that I would gain any hp/weight with that thing.

So you got any good carb rebuilding tips. I was thinking of starting with 120 mains and 20 pilots, clip on the fourth rung. Does this sound like a good starting place for my pods and 4 into 1 exhaust of questionable origin. I also have 105, 107.5, and 117.5 mains and 15, and 17.5 pilot jets. Remember that I am at sea level and it will likely be rather hot when I get to tune this thing.

Thanks for the jet info, and welcome to KZRider. You should start a post in the New Member Section, and be sure to include a picture of your bike. I want to see it b/c I had an 82 CSR that I decided to give up on at the time. I still regret that decision. That bike was more complete than this 78 that I'm doing right now. If I had kept it, then I could have been already riding my KZ for the past 5 yrs.

OK, I gotta know, did you start with a pre-punched blank for the exhaust hanger? I only ask because the cut out in the center is PERFECTLY symetrical. Like CNC precision. How'd you do that?
