You can spray some carb cleaner on the shim and it will disolve the oil under the shim then use compressed air or a dental pick to get it out.
Are you keeping the shims and other parts together with the cylinder it came out of? Roy

I don't have the "special" tool they recommend to compress all 4 piston rings while I slide the jugs back on. Is there another way of doing it?

looks good,it is coming back together nicely.you need all the shims you can get if you are going to keep this bike.they are a pain,but you gotta have them.i have robbed shims outta heads for years to get my selection and still need more.sorry i don't have a good word for ya on where to get them tho.
