old skool drag bike with atwist was created by Kawiman80
Hey guys,
Iam about to embark on a new journey with my kz.
I am tearing it apart this winter to install a 190/50/17 tire on a 5.5 40 spoke to match the 19in on the front. Hence the old skool drag bike.
I have a local fab shop that ca make the swing arm for me and do other chassis mods if necessary. I am not a welder by any means!!! lol!!

My concerns are what other issues should I be aware of? Chain interference? Brake set up? Any information would be greatly appreciated, since a lot of you have done this mod before,I JUST COULD FIND IT,my lack of ?
Anyway thanks in advance for your support!!!!

Here's a few pics of the stages it has gone through.

You will need to offset the front sprocket of course. The brake system would have to be built to fit YOUR bike. You can use stock components for the most part but would have to build some parts...wheel spacers, sprocket spacer on back more then likely, brake arm, longer brake lines, etc. Cahin will be very close to frame...may get by and then some have to modify frame for clearance...or go smaller chain which means different sprockets which may be hard to come by. You can use the stock rear caliper but it will be a tight fit inside a 17" rim. Have to install it and wheel as one unit. Are you planning on running a tube inside the tire? Some don't recommend running tubes in radial tires...others say it's not an issue. Something to think about on a spoke rim. Have to get it sealed either way.

what are u using for a swing arm?
is this drag only or street and drag?
a 5/8 offset sprocket will need frame clearanceing but will make life at the back a little easier. but for dragging u would want an outboard support bearing. also it would require the use of a none o-ring chain. unless u get serious about clearancing.such as splitting the frame and spreading it to widening it, and flattening the inside frame rails with heat and c clamp. or cutting out a section of frame rail and rebuilding it with a chain channel.
a 1/2" offset front would be the easiest overall .although it makes it harder to center the rim.

Thanks for the info guys!!!
I figured I would need an offset sprocket, but just don't know how much at this point.
Can I use the brake set up of a donor wheel? The wheel is a harley based. It's the only one I could find.
The bike is going to be street and drag with a Shinko tire. The same one the sport bike guys use.
CAn I run the chain on the out side of the frame with a carrier bearing for the offset sprocket?
The fab shop sid he was going to chromoly dom tubing to build the swingarm with custom axle sliders.
If puting this rim on is to much, can I go the sportbike rim to make it easier? I know that other things will still have to be made to make it work, but the ease of install would be better?
Thanks,
Mike
Z1 sells 530 sprockets and has a conversion page from JT sprockets,so finding sprockets to fit shouldn't be a problem. Plus I can call a shop close by to get info also on the sprockets also.

sport bike rim would be easier and use the try to get a complete setup from a doner bike if you were using a car tire set up you would go outside the frame rails in your case you will have to relieve the frame and most likly go with the 5/8 offset like mark said.if you need a bearing support that is a custom piece irishwill makes a really nice one i have one on my dragbike right now.

I am running a zrx 1200 swingarm with a 6 rear rim and a 180/50/17 tire with a 530 chain. 5/8 offset in the front with no bearing support and a custom machined zx9 rim to make up the differnece in the spacing (its about 3/4 machined from the carrier. Let me tell you there is no room to run a tire any bigger than a 180. I literally have a 1/16 of an inch between the chain and the tire and a 1/16 between the fram and the chain up front. Just my thoughts.

The whole thing as she sits.

Well Mark,
Lets see,old skool stree/drag bike. I would like to use a 40 spoke to match the front. But,I do like the set up that galaxian has!!!! With a 6' over swing arm though. This is my inspiration!!!! The ol drag bike!!! AWESOME!!!
And the green one has already done this!!!! I didn't know it 'till I looked at pics again.
But for now everything is on hold 'till my fiance' gets out of the hospital. She has pneumonia and that will take most of the money I had saved for this to pay for the medical treatment. SO until I have some thing to update,I'll talk to you guys soon.

I hope your fiancé feels better soon.
That is too bad .:(
Just let us know when its time to start the build and we will be glad to help. Do your research in the mean time, and it will make the project easier, and cheaper.

Just find the stance u want, i think u have , and search the project section. u can also PM the guys with bike u like in the gallery . Any one will be happy to help steer u in the right direction.
Good luck .B)
