$250 1978 KZ650 CR
04 Jun 2009 19:53
Just got back into the KZ fold. I bought a non running KZ650 of Craigslist for the princely sum of $250. Bike is complete, has an older V&H megaphone and K&N pods. Carbs are absolutely filthy and the bike appears to have no spark. The previous owner replaced the coils with a set of Dyna 3 ohm coils. Not sure yet if this bike is supposed to have points or electronic ignition, so right now i am just cleaning the carbs and filters, tidying up the electronics and getting everything licensed. Will get pics soon, 2006hhr

Arrrggggggghhhh... Another SCORE....
Damn it, I look on CL everyday for a 500 mile radius here in AZ. NADA, not a damn KZ can be found for rebuilding within a reasonable price range...
As with my first project, I only want the under $500 POS to design, fabricate and turn into unique.
Poor OMR.....
No worries for I will find another one day....

OMR- you need to look farther away. I found mine with a spare engine for $400 and through some creative organization I got it shipped from Seattle to North dakota for a wopping $0... nill, nada, zipo! I looked for two years and found nothing locally.
2006hhr- yor bike should most likely have points. I know the 750's had an electronic pickup and module. You can install parts forma 750 or buy an aftermarket unit.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Yep, Dixon is our 06 black hhr ls. I have pics but need my daughters help uploading onto the site. Found out the bike still has points, so the $250 KZ is now a $375 KZ with the purchase of a Dyna ignition. Hoping to keep below $500 into it.

Pics( i hope)
As you can see, the points are fragged. Ordered a Dyna ignition. Pipe appears to be an early Vance and Hines or RC Engineering system. Lots of surface rust but it is really solid. Will sand and repaint at a later date and hold out for a Kerker system.
