nice build. have you thought of painting it a different color besides felony orange?

 Felony Orange.... If I ever get this thing in a magazine (I know a guy who knows a guy etc. etc. who said when it's finished he wants to publish) the color will now be listed as "Felony Orange".

The real story is about the time it was ready for paint, I dropped my buddies totally custom 929 Honda, and had to repair the lower fairing. Not being an overly particular color guy, I told the body man to paint the KZ stuff the same "Felony Orange" as the 929 panel I had to pay to fix.

It's actually got some pearl in it and is quite intriging in the sunlight, but there is now way to get that look into a photo and see the full "magic".

Felony orange it is from now on!!

Awesome! I just saw an ad in Motorcyclist this month and have been meaning to post about it. The weight savings is amazing!! Please let us know how it holds up. Do you know if a battery tender will work OK with this type of battery?

The only problem I see is that the "exact replacement" listed has the terminals reversed for some reason...they offer an opposite one but I think there's an error. The link below came up for my MKII and the terminals are reversed.

Here's the manufacturer's site:

The Kaw List:
Current: 79 KZ1000 A3 MKII, 78 KZ1000 A2, 78 KZ1000 Z1-R, 78 KZ650 SR, 80 KE175
Former: 03 KLX400SR, 99 ZRX1000, 82 KZ750 LTD, 80 KZ1000 A4 MKII, 80 KZ1000 LTD, 78 KZ1000 A2, 74 H-2 750 Triple, 78 KL250

They are so small I don't see where the terminal issue would even come into play. You just turn the battery around until the terminals are where you want them.

As far as holding up:

"it will outlast stock ones by far, they claim 2 to 4 times. best part is no need to charge when not riding, it can sit for year without losing any power."

Spent the day today just trying to get some of the minor details finished. I know when it comes time to start it the working will be over and the riding will begin. So all those little headache details you look at but never fix.

I got the rearsets back on and since I have seen some other posts where folks are struggling with them thought I would show a picture of what I came up with.

The hardware is from I think a 99 R-6. It may be a CBR 600 but they are both almost identical. I had to remove all the stuff from the R-6 brackets and reassemble them on some brackets made from scratch.

The intent is to CNC a pair of brackets, but these will get me by for now.

They look like the factory put them on and that is the way I want them. They also have the little rubber pads on top to reduce vibration.

They work perfectly and even thread through the kickstand a spring with about .050" to spare.

it may be worth doing some research on the charging needs of this new bat. on the web sight it says that some of them will not last as long in certain applications :
"Cranking speed and lifespan may be reduced in this case, depending on the starter current draw for your particular vehicle. Not recommended for daily road use, especially in vehicles which have significant Key-Off current draw."

I noticed this statement when i looked up a battery for my race bike ?? not sure what its all about yet. i just thought i would mention it .

Standard Recommendation: LFX14A2-BS12MSRP: $153.95Our LFX Standard recommendation is the best overall pick for most applications, and has been selected to give strong cranking performance and long lifespan. This LFX battery is 6.32 Lbs. lighter than the lead-acid YTZ10S.

Mark,

I think you are looking at the race application battery.

The standard application looks pretty much like a straight up battery.

I havent had time to look into it yet but i would like to find out more about these batteries. it just seems toooo good to be true, if u know what i mean.
if they do, last longer and save 7lbs, I'm in.

I will consult with the "Zoran" regarding the issue.

It looks like the lighter version may not be the best choice for a streetbike.

By the way Mark..

I cannot thank you enough for warning me about the chain clearance issue on the inside of the frame, I reworked the frame in that area after you posted a couple photo's, had i not done the rework I would be soooo mad right now.

With the small "skidplate" and the .080' I removed, the chain looks like it will be running perfectly through there with no banging into the frame.

Thanks again!!!
